The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District in the red chambers, Obong Bassey Albert has opened up on his five years in office as Senator.

The Senator, popularly called OBA, acknowledged that only God’s continuous faithfulness helped him realize his many feats within the five years on the saddle of leadership as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking in his anniversary message to his constituents, OBA appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for his immense support and cooperation; he thanked his party, the PDP, and other supporters for standing by him throughout the period of electioneering and even at the tribunals, even as he reechoed the supremacy of God’s grace and mercy upon his success.

Outlining his achievements at the Senate, OBA admitted that his mission was well positioned on service delivery, adding that he is always poised to justify the trust and confidence reposed in him by his constituents.

Albert traced his successes in the 9th Senate to the sound leadership of the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan.

The professional banker turned politician, pointed out that as a ranking member and as Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), he has spared no effort in executing his task dutifully.

He listed his achievements to include: championing the amendment of the Deep Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract Act, which he said was executed perfectly after over 30 years unattended as well as over $20 billion loss in oil revenue to the federation, ensuring the resolution of a decade old dispute between NNPC and Chevron Nigeria Limited over the Escravos Gas to Liquid (EGTL) Project which led to the historic signing of the NNPC/Chevron EGTL Revised Agreement.

OBA intimated that within five years in office, he has carried out empowerment programmes covering scholarship awards to 381 students of Akwa Ibom State origin in universities across the country, where 100% of tuition fees are paid plus N20,000.00 upkeep stipends to each beneficiary annually.

He disclosed of also donating palliatives through cash transfers to constituents, supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to health workers, government and private offices, unions, socio-cultural bodies, market women, transporters, and medical institutions amongst others, to cushion the effect of the corona virus on his people. He promised to do more for his people, to justify the confidence reposed on him.

“For me, it is service above self. I am bonded to serve and justify your confidence. This is the pact and I shall continue with same zeal in all responsibilities bestowed upon me, trusting that that same God is capable of doing all things”, OBA promised.

He pledged his unalloyed loyalty and cooperation, and that of the Akwa Ibom Caucus in the National Assembly under my leadership, to Governor Udom Emmanuel, adding that he shall work in unity with his team to serve the people faithfully to the glory of God and to the best interest of Akwa Ibom State.
