Onofiok Luke Briefs Constituents, Harps on Politics Of Development

Leaders and politicians in the Akwa Ibom State have been asked to think of the developmental programmes and projects they could attract to the State for the betterment of the people rather than engaging in blackmails and frivolities that would not add economic value to the people.

Barr Onofiok Luke, member representing Etinan Federal Constituency gave the advice at Etinan council headquarters, venue of the Town Hall meeting he organised to brief his constituents on the political happenings at the National Assembly in the last few months.

Barr Luke who is an advocate of bipartisan political principle, said that what interest him most in leadership are the political and economic dividends that politicians would bring home for the people who according to him are at the receiving end.

The National lawmaker opined that election had come and gone and now is the time for development of the State and the people, calling on all politicians to do away with party affiliation and face development, whether PDP, APC or APGA member, it makes no difference.

“Elections are long gone and we have gotten the different offices that we all struggled for, now is the time for the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, coupled with the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs would join hands together with the State governor alongside all Federal and State lawmakers to begin to drag development to the State,” Barr. Luke stressed.

While expressing dismay on the deplorable condition of federal roads projects such as Calabar Itu and East West roads which he said have not been considered in the 2020 budget, the Chairman House Committee on Federal Judiciary wondered why the Presidential development funds where 241b, from National sovereign investment Authority, earmarked to fund such key projects of the federal government could not address the issue.

On the establishment of Ibom Deep Seaport, He maintained that those who are out to frustrate the project are not wishing the country well, adding that development of any part of the country is a development for all Nigerians.

He therefore pledged his continued support to the success of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s completion agenda and urged other politicians to rally round the State government policy thrust and programmes for the people.
