The Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs has called on relevant authorities of the Federal Government to ensure that the rights and privileges of the State are freely given back to the State as the year 2020 sets in.
The Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs gave the call on Thursday through the Chairman of Council, the Oku Ibom Ibibio, Nteyin Solomon Daniel Etuk during the Council’s first meeting of the year held at the Chambers of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uyo.
Nteyin Etuk noted that it would be equitable and just that Akwa Ibom State which he said lays the golden eggs is treated better than the way it is currently being treated.
He pointed out that when the State is treated fairly, it will reflect in the way federal presence is felt through critical infrastructures and appointment of Akwa Ibom sons and daughters into critical offices.
The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs added ” We pray that God should give President Buhari good health and wisdom. Let him understand that no tribe or ethnic group is an underdog or lesser. It is our prayers that he should remember and do things for the South- South region. We want God to instill in his heart love so that he can remember us as a State”.
The Patriarch called on Akwa Ibom people and the State government to work hard in making year 2020 a unique year of growth in the lifetime of the State.
He noted that for such feat to be achieved, all hands must be on the plough towards the pursuit of orderliness, peace and unity of the State.
The Monarch charged all Paramount Rulers of the State to ensure they work hard in maintaining peace in their respective domain stressing that maintenance of law and order at the grassroots was the key reason they emerged monarchs in their domain.
Nteyin Etuk stated ” As the new year sets in, please remember not to do things that do not reflect the fear of God. Do things that will bring prosperity to the land. We have to join hands with Governor Udom Emmanuel, share ideas with him for a better State.
” If you do not do things that will reflect peace and unity, then you do not justify why you were kept as a king. Any action you take, please remember that you are a king which your people look up to.”
While wishing all Paramount Rulers in the State sound health, the Patriarch urged them to hold solemn assembly in their various domain with the aim of calling on God to better the lots of the State.
The Chairman of Council used the occasion to call on World leaders who are currently on war path to sheath their sword and pursue peace in their relations with fellow nations noting that the disastrous effect of wars live beyond generations.
Highpoint of the event was the prayer session led by the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi, HRM Edidem Joe Ntuk Obom and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Atai, HRM Edidem Peter Okon towards peace and prosperity of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and the World.
