The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 60-year old Village Head over possession of illegal firearms.
The suspect, Chief Edet of Asik Ubofa Fishing Settlement in Effiat Clan, Mbo Local Government Area was caught with AK-47 rifle following credible intelligence.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Command, disclosed this in a press release issued in Uyo on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
According to DSP John, “Upon receipt of the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, directed Operatives of the Command to immediately embark on a coordinated operation to verify the information and take necessary action.
“Consequently, on March 24, 2026, at about 1015hrs, detectives swung into action and stormed the suspect’s location.

“During the operation, the team successfully recovered one AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines. The suspect was arrested at the scene without incident.
She said with the suspect in police custody, “A discreet investigation has commenced to ascertain the source of the firearm, determine his motives, and apprehend other possible accomplices for prosecution.”
The PPRO attributed the significant operational breakthrough to the Command’s sustained efforts to rid the State of illegal firearms and criminal elements.
She further reiterated the commitment of the Command to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and warned individuals in possession of unlawful firearms to voluntarily surrender them or face the full weight of the law.
The Police, she said, commend members of the public for their continued support and urged them to sustain the flow of timely and credible information to security agencies.
