Agric, Infrastructural Renaissance Top Senator Albert’s Agenda For Abak
Agrarian and infrastructural renaissance will top Senator Bassey Albert Akpan’s agenda for the people of Abak Local Government when he becomes the Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2023.
Senator Albert, a leading Governorship hopeful, stated this at a consultative meeting in Abak Local Government on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
Presenting his blueprint to the people, he indicated a comprehensive plan to conduct a technical audit of palm oil mills in the area, under his government in 2023, to revive the tottering agricultural industry in the area.
He gave the delegates and stakeholders the assurance that such an audit will pave the way for the resuscitation and upgrading of the ailing factories, in addition to revamping the deplorable infrastructure.
The governorship aspirant popularly known as OBA assured that going by his other plans for them, Abak will not be different from Uyo in terms of infrastructure, when he becomes the next governor.
He also pledged to reconstruct the Ukpom Road linking Abak to Idoro Road in Uyo, which served as an alternative route during the construction of the Ikot Oku Ikono Flyover but got depleted within the period.

“But it is not only to be too much of infrastructure. I also want to develop you, people,” he said, signalling his readiness to additionally focus on human capital development.
His roadmap, he said, captures the creation of opportunities for skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development. “We will create opportunities for our youths via the social services and empowerment we have outlined for them”.
OBA assured them of prioritising rural electrification and the development of basic amenities that could help checkmate rural-to-urban drift.
He said God had prepared him for governorship, stating that even if he becomes the governor for one day, he would have changed the circumstances of many Akwa Ibomites.
He urged the delegates not to succumb to intimidation or inducement to swear to an oath with any aspirant.

Earlier, the Director-General of Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Organisation, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, while presenting the aspirant, said OBA has the physical and intellectual capacity to change the current pitiable situation of the masses.
He extolled OBA’s pedigree in both private and public sectors, including his humanitarian impacts while in the banking industry, when he was a commissioner and even now as a senator.
He said Senator Akpan is not a novice in the party, neither is he a stranger to Abak and her people, having visited all the parts of the area when he was in charge of the inter-ministerial direct labour project under Gov Godswill Akpabio.
The Chapter chairman, Dr Mike Udo, said Abak delegates are too big to be in anybody’s pocket and can take an independent decision.
“We cannot and we will not allow external influences to take over our conscience. When that time comes, count on us,” he assured the senator.
One of the major stakeholders, Rt Hon Friday Iwok, who spoke on behalf of his people said Abak people are with OBA because he is are playing home politics, which is accommodating and plans for tomorrow; unlike those playing “fast food” politics, which squanders everything in one day.
He assured OBA that the Abak people will not disappoint him, charging him not to forget them when he gets to Government House.
