A’Ibom Govt Moves Against Illegal Construction

... As Anua - Mbak - Ishiet Rd, Others Wear New Look

The Akwa Ibom State Government on Tuesday demolished illegal buildings, kiosks and shops hurriedly erected on the right of way to extort compensation from government at Anua Offot Village, one of the benefiting communities of the 19.7Km Anua- Mbak-Ishiet Road handled by Verini Construction Company.

Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-Eyen, who supervised the demolition exercise on behalf of the State Government, stated unequivocally that, government would not condone such action saying, the act was “improper, treachery and anti-development.”

Inyang-Eyen, who warned a few recalcitrant landlords to desist forthwith from what he termed “selfish acts”, explained that structures built on the ‘right of way’ and obstructions on the alignment of the ongoing road construction, if allowed would wreak havoc on the entire community.

He hinted that government was taking advantage of the dry season to step up road constructions in the State, attributing the successes recorded by the Udom Emmanuel led administration to God’s benevolence and support of the people.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s inspection tour took the team which had the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr John Itiat and other officials of the Ministry to the ongoing construction of Ring Road 2 by Qumecs Nigeria Limited, Airport – Okopedi Road by EPL Construction Company, among others.
