A’Ibom Police Command Bust Vandalism Syndicate, Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Stolen Items In Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has again recorded a breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

To this end, the command has arrested two suspected vandals as well as recovered several stolen items in Uyo.

According to DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, the State Police Command on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at about 11:46 am, based on credible information at the Command’s disposal about an ongoing act of vandalism along Ndiya Street, off Aka Road, Uyo, mobilised its operatives swiftly to the scene.

She narrated that “On sighting the police, the suspects took to their heels, but the Police went after them and arrested one Inem Essien Jimmy ‘m’, of Nung Ayai family in Aka Offot village.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect, Uduak Abasi Ekere ‘m’, of Ikot Itina village in Etinan LGA, who was apprehended at about 3:40 pm at Ebiare Afiat Lane, off Aka Road.

“Upon interrogation, Uduak Abasi alleged that one Michael (surname yet unknown), believed to be a receiver of stolen goods, usually collects items from them. Michael is currently at large, and efforts are ongoing to arrest him.”

DSP Timfon John said a thorough search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of a large cache of items suspected to have been stolen, including two large oxygen gas cylinders, one SUMEC Fireman 3000 generator, one Fireman 1800 generator, one 12.5 kg gas cylinder, one complete mechanic toolbox and two wheelbarrows.

Other items listed were one 4 kg gas cylinder, one aluminium car wheel, one metal Coca-Cola stand, one tile cutter, one solar light panel, assorted offcuts of aluminium profiles, various sizes of copper and aluminium electric cables, six lengths of iron rods, one Haojue tricycle tailboard, one sack containing a full set of mechanic spanners, two car jacks and one portrait photograph.

The PPRO further stated in the press release issued on Monday, June 30, 2025, that the arrested suspects will be charged in court while investigations continue to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the entire syndicate.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, has commended the swift action of the officers involved.

“He once again calls on residents to remain security-conscious and continue to partner with the police in the fight against crime by providing timely and useful information,” she added.
