... As HRM Akuku Saviour Udofia takes Oath As New Council Chairman

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, has commended Governor Umo Eno for his sustained support for the traditional institution in Akwa Ibom State.

He gave the commendation on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, during the swearing-in and presentation of Staff of Office to the newly recognised Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty, Akuku Saviour Sylvester Udofia, JP, at Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers Hall, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

Addressing the Governor, royal fathers, and other distinguished guests at the ceremony, Archibong described the event as one of “great cultural import.” He emphasised that traditional rulers have remained the bedrock of Akwa Ibom’s unity and progress since state creation, providing stability, galvanising collective action, and nurturing the Akwa Ibom spirit of brotherhood and oneness.

The Commissioner praised Governor Eno’s bipartisan style of leadership, which, he noted, has fostered peace, tolerance, and inclusiveness across the state. He highlighted landmark initiatives such as the Security Trust Fund, the Electricity Summit, and the Town Square Meetings as visionary interventions that enhance security, stimulate economic growth, and connect governance more directly with the grassroots.

Archibong further acknowledged the Governor’s respect and generosity toward the traditional institution, citing quarterly medical allowances and other welfare packages as proof of a government that values its royal fathers. He noted that all 31 paramount rulers remain intact, making this year’s ceremony unique by focusing solely on the recognition and swearing-in of HRM Akuku Saviour Sylvester Udofia as Chairman of the State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers.

Governor Umo Eno, while administering the oath of allegiance and office to the new chairman, wished him a joyous and peaceful tenure. He congratulated all traditional rulers who were formally recognised and presented with certificates of recognition and announced a review of the monthly stipends for traditional rulers as part of his administration’s commitment to their welfare.

The Governor also revealed the appointment of 31 new Personal Assistants to serve the Paramount Rulers, with remuneration on the same level as ward PAs.
He further directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to provide a new Coaster bus to aid the nobility of the institution and reaffirmed his promise to continually support the elderly, honour the royal institutions, and uphold peace as a foundation for sustainable development.

President General of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Oku Ibom Ibibio Worldwide, His Eminence Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk JP, CFR, in his brief goodwill message, applauded the Governor for his bipartisan approach, approving the furnishing of the Royal Fathers’ palace, inclusiveness and compassionate trademarks, noting that the Governor since assumption of office has embarked on the mission of reconciling all citizens and promoting peace and unity.

He further wished him a very successful tenure in office and prayed God to grant the Governor sound health and wisdom to lead.

Earlier, HRM Akuku Saviour Udofia promised to assiduously work and support the governor to ensure the dividends of democracy are put to birth for the benefit of all, while helping consolidate the values of the traditional institution in the state.

HRM Akuku Udofia commended his colleague and Paramount Rulers for the support extended to him.
