Akwa Ibom University Installs Oku Ibom Ibibio As Chancellor

Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU, has concluded arrangement for the formal installation of her newly appointed Chancellor, a foremost traditional ruler in Nigeria, His Eminence Nteyin Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP.
The installation ceremony by the state owned tertiary institution, holds tomorrow, Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the University Sports Ground, Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin L.G.A.
Nteyin Etuk, who is the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Oku Ibom Ibibio, Patriarch of Ibibio people worldwide and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, succeeds His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Najib Hussaini Adamu Kazaure, the Emir of Kazaure in Jigawa State, whose tenure has since expired.
The State Governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, who is the visitor to the University approved the appointment of Nteyin Etuk as the Chancellor through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
The appointment and installation has created joy across Ibibio nation and the entire traditional institution in Akwa Ibom State as well as amongst associates and friends within and outside Nigeria.
The Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. John Udo said in a statement issued on behalf the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Eno Ibanga, and made available to Crystal Express, that the installation of the chancellor is a landmark occasion.
The statement reads, ‘’The Vice Chancellor, Akwa Ibom State University, Professor Eno James Ibanga, FNIP, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Staff, students and the entire university community, cordially invites the stakeholder of the institution and the general public to the installation ceremony of the second chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, His Eminence, Nteyin Solomon Daniel Etuk JP, the patriarch of Ibibio land , Oku Ibom Ibibio and chairman, Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council’’.
Dignitaries expected at the event include the Visitor to the University, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel and members of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, traditional rulers as well as other eminent personalities within and outside the state.
The event has attracted several goodwill messages from notable individuals, congratulating the Oku Ibom Ibibio, Nteyin Etuk over his new appointment which they described as well deserved.
Ifim Ibom Ibibio, the apex Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, in their message of goodwill endorsed by the paramount rulers of Ibiono Ibom, Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang; Ikono, Edidem Nyong Obop; Ikot Abasi, Edidem Udo Joe Ntuk Obom; Eket, Edidem E C D Abia and Onna, Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang, commended the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for appointing their revered patriarch to preside over the affairs of the state owned university as chancellor.
Describing the appointment as a worthy engagement for the Oku Ibom Ibibio who is also the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, the body expressed the believe that the new chancellor would bring forth his capacity and wealth of experience to bolster the educational excellence and general development of the university, which according to them is very dear to the heart of Akwa Ibom people.
Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, the senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District said the royal father has “made us proud as the Oku Ibom Ibibio, Patriarch of Ibibio People worldwide and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local government Area.
Senator Akpan, popularly called OBA, pledged the support of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, towards his success at his new place of responsibility.
Similarly, the State Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-eyen, who eulogies the sterling leadership qualities of the revered traditional ruler, said his recent appointment and subsequent installation as the second chancellor, will bring a lasting legacy that would advance the educational frontiers of the state owned institution.
  Also, in a message of congratulations, the board, management and staff of Access bank plc, who described the new appointment as a well-deserved honour and a testament to the unwavering commitment to the development of the state, adding that the wealth of knowledge and experience he has garnered through the years will be brought to bear in the effective discharge of his new responsibility.
“Considering the pivotal role education plays in nation building and the need for institutional collaboration for sustainable development and youth enlightenment, Access bank will appreciate partnering with you on the achievement of your objectives for the university and the development of her immediate community,” the bank pledged.
Others, who also felicitated with the new chancellor on his appointment include the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Udo Ekpenyong, the executive chairman of Nsit Ubium, Elder Udemeobong Bassey and the Paramount of Ikori community, Rivers State, HRH Amb. Appolus Chu, also spoke glowingly of the leadership qualities embedded in the person of Oku Ibom Ibibio.
