Arrears Owed Former Councillors, Supervisors In Nsit Atai To Be Cleared – Prince Nyong

The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has announced plans to settle all outstanding furniture allowance arrears owed to former councillors and supervisors by the previous administration.

The Chairman disclosed during a meeting with a delegation of former councillors and supervisors in his office on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Nyong acknowledged that official records from the council confirmed that the former councillors and supervisors were owed a furniture allowance by the past administration.

He assured them that his administration is committed to ensuring that the outstanding arrears are settled.

According to the Chairman, his administration remains focused on fairness, transparency, and the promotion of peace and harmony within the local government area. He emphasised that his government is determined to address and resolve inherited challenges, noting that leadership should be about stewardship and problem-solving.

“Leadership is about doing what is right. From the official records available to us, we have confirmed that your claims are legitimate. Everyone who serves the government deserves fairness, and this administration will ensure that every legitimate entitlement is honoured,” Nyong stated.

The Chairman further stressed that individuals who had rendered service to the local government deserved to be treated fairly, noting that every labourer deserves his or her wages. He reaffirmed that his administration stands for justice and will always uphold what is right and fair.

Also speaking, the Adviser on Legal Matters to the council, Barrister Obot commended the Chairman for what he described as a thoughtful and responsible gesture. He urged the former councillors and supervisors to continue supporting the Chairman’s administration to sustain peace and development in the local government area.

Earlier, speaking on behalf of the delegation, a two-term former leader of the Legislature, Rt. Hon. Ben Udo Ben expressed appreciation to the Chairman for addressing the issue, describing the move as redemptive.

He noted that he had confidence in the Chairman’s goodwill and commitment to resolving the matter, even when the issue was privately discussed with him earlier.

Rt. Hon. Ben further described the Chairman’s action as unprecedented in the history of the local government.
“Chairman, you have done what no other chairman in this local government has done before. We pray that God will bless you as you continue to do good things for the people of Nsit Atai. Be assured that we will continue to support your administration”, he concluded.

In attendance were the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Mrs Affiong Amanam; the Head of Service (HOS), Mrs Imaobong Antai; the Director of Finance and Administration; the Dean of Supervisors; the Revenue Consultant; and the Legal Advisers to the Council.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with participants commending the Chairman for taking steps aimed at promoting unity, fairness, and good governance in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
