Barrister Boniface Akang Emerges Essien Udim Political Leader

As the Akwa Ibom State political frontier picks up momentum towards the 2027 general elections, a new caucus leader has emerged for the Essien Udim chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He is the erstwhile AKISEIC Electoral Commissioner, Legal and Public Affairs, Barrister Boniface Akang. The emergence of the legal luminary cum politician, Barr. Akang follows a meeting of the PDP stakeholders at Nsasak, the country home of the Essien Udim PDP’s chapter Chairman, Hon. Polycarp Umoh.
Hon Umoh, while presenting Barr Boniface Akang as the new leader amidst cheers and jubilation, said that the choice of the legal practitioner, businessman, and politician was the aftermath of wide consultations and popular consent.
He described Barr Akang as a round peg in a round hole and prayed that his leadership uplifts and unites the party.
The chapter Chairman, Honourable Polycarp Imoh, commended the PDP faithful for resilience in keeping faith with the party. He urged unity of purpose and continued determination to succeed, urging all hands to be on deck for the task ahead to bring to pass the collective good of the people and the state and especially the progress and prosperity of the people of Essien Udim LGA.
Barr Boniface Akang, by the party’s pronouncement, making him the caucus leader, steps into the large shoes of the centenarian Obong Micheal Afangideh, who had held the reins of the PDP leadership since the inception of the party in Essien Udim LGA.

The proclamation is also significant, as Essien Udim has been the cradle, home and field of play to notable politicians who have played critical roles in the local government and state and National politics, including the Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.
Responding, the new PDP leader of Essien Udim LGA, Barr. Boniface Akang expressed appreciation to the party for his elevation.
He promised to tread the paths of justice and fair play and lead by example, urging cooperation and support.
The meeting attracted party faithful spanning the 13 wards of Essien Udim LGA. Stakeholders, among whom were party elder, Mr Prince Udioko, the political leader of Adiasim, High Chief Nsini Njojoko, the PDP Chairman of Ward Chairmen, Mr Ndifreke Mboho and Comrade Jimmy Ubong Marcus, spoke, pledging continued loyalty and support towards the progress of the party.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Chapter Chairman, the Chapter Women Leader, Mrs Emma Eniedu, Chapter Secretary, Mr David James, Apostle Gregory Edo, the Youth Leader, Mr Paul Clement, the Legal Adviser, Bar Eno Ekam, former Legislative Council Leader, Sir Uduak Umoh, a former Transition Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Imoh Asuquo and other stakeholders.
