The spokesperson of the BCS Patriarch, Christ Shepherd Edet Archibong, who made this known during a briefing in Calabar, the state capital, to herald this year’s anniversary of the coronation of His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, said the government is cognizant of the contributions of the BCS to the tourism sector of the state’s economy, hence its decision to partner the church in harnessing this potential.

“In realisation of the tourism potential of the BCS, the Cross River State government has proposed to partner us to harness it to the benefit of the state.

“Thousands of visitors throng the state yearly to take part in BCS mega-events and to perform the pilgrimage at Biakpan, the birthplace of Leader Olumba Olumba Obu.

“Economic benefits accrue to the state in terms of inflow of foreign money, patronage of the hospitality industry, transportation and local businesses. “The BCS Divine Royal Museum is a great tourist attraction which the state government is interested to see it developed.

“The museum has been registered with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments and is undergoing remodelling and staff training for more effective service delivery”, Archibong enumerated.

According to him, the BCS is the second highest employer of labour in the state and has established several enterprises including a rubber and palm plantation, bakery, water factories, microfinance bank to reduce the scourge of unemployment as well as serve the faithful and general public.

He added that the organisation’s secondary school, the Brotherhood Model School, has been expanded and the BCS University is in the offing.

According to him, the anniversary commemorates the coronation of His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu which took place on April 14, 2001.

He explained that this year’s event was shifted to August 9, 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining that the anniversary will establish the kingdom of God on earth through the BCS and bring perfection.
