The wife of the YPP governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor (Mrs.) Imaobong Nkeiru Bassey Albert has called on the electorate to be watchful of the electoral processes during the forthcoming gubernatorial/State House of Assembly Elections to avoid a repeat of the manipulation witnessed in earlier polls.
Mrs Albert advised while addressing the joint Association of Market women in Oron on Monday, March 6, 2023.
The consultative meeting, held at Idua Asang Community with the Association of Afang, Dry Fish and other Seafood sellers, including non-indigenes witnessed the endorsed Mrs Albert as their preferred First Lady come May 29, 2023.
The YPP’s governorship candidate’s wife, who reminded the women of the February 25 Presidential/National Assembly Elections and its eventual turnout, asked them to learn from the experience and stay resolute to the end of the forthcoming governorship election.
“When you go out on Saturday, go with your PVC. When you finish voting, stay there. Let them collate the votes. Tell the election officers to announce the result of the election before you leave. Take pictures and videos of them, so that they know that in this election, they cannot try what they did last time,” she charged.
Reminding the women of their unrewarded sacrifice of love for the ruling Party in the last 7 years, Pst. Mrs Albert told them to expect the best from her husband’s administration, through the Market Women Cooperative Society which will be launched in the State.
“This is so that people like you who are ready to work with their hands and make a living through decent means for yourselves and families can be supported so that you don’t go and take loans you won’t be able to pay back, that will be accumulating with huge interests.”
“You’ve stood with them in that Party and supported them. You voted for them. The very least they can do is to support you in your businesses but they haven’t done that,” she said.
Speaking in agreement, the convener of the meeting, Dr Arit Etim told the women that their time for emancipation has come.
She dissuaded them from the ongoing fanfare of the ruling party, stating that those activities were mere gimmicks put up to deceive and entice them while maintaining that OBA’s words are his bonds.
She stated that the women were tired of collecting wrappers and N1,500 every four years only to be abandoned after elections.
She however expressed confidence that OBA’s administration will turn their fortunes around, based on his antecedents.
Unanimously, the women endorsed the wife of the YPP’s candidate as their preferred First Lady and pledged alliance to her and her husband.
“We will work for you because we love you. Elections are always carried out by women and this would not be an exemption,” one of the market women leaders, Mrs Nkoyo Asukwo assured.
“We will work for you because your husband’s antecedents are boldly written all over Akwa Ibom for all to see especially in his scholarship programme which our sons and daughters are beneficiaries,” another market woman leader, Mrs Esther Pius Effiong said.
The women however asked OBA to help them tackle the activities of Pirates when he comes on board, lamenting that Sea Pirates have consistently robbed them of their trade, money and goods in recent times.
Similarly, the Director General of the Akwa UbokAbasi campaign organization, Pastor Sunny Ibuot who accompanied Mrs Albert to the meeting, told the women of the happy times ahead with Senator Bassey Albert as Governor.
He told them OBA would run an all-inclusive government which would involve them and secure their businesses.
The women, in turn, prayed for the success of OBA’s bid and expressed readiness to stand by him for a resounding success.
