The Nigerian Military High Command has mourned Late Major General Edet Adam Akpan (Rtd.) OFR, a former Director/Commandant, Nigerian Army Education Corps and School.
General Akpan, who also served as a one-time director general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020.
In in a condolence message to the deceased family, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, on behalf of officers and men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, conveyed their deep sympathy over the loss of Late General Akpan.
The message read, “It was with deep sense of sorrow that I received the news of the death of our distinguished senior colleague, Major General Edet Adam Akpan (Rtd).

“The senior officer served this nation diligently in various high profile capacities culminating to the peak of his glorious career as the Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Education Corps.”
General Olonisakin further noted that “This loss has indeed created a vacuum difficult to be filled by the family, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation at large.

“On behalf of officers and men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, I wish to commiserate with you and pray that the Almighty God grants you and the entire family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.
“Once again, please accept and convey my heartfelt condolences and best assurances to all members of your precious family.”
