
Significant successes have been achieved by the Nigerian Armed Forces in their counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations across the country between April and June 2025.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO) who disclosed this during a quarterly press briefing on Thursday, July 4, 2025, in Abuja said the military eliminated several notorious terrorist leaders and their foot soldiers, including Amir Abu Fatimah, Kinging Auta, and Abdul Jamilu, among others.
General Kangye also said the military neutralised several high-profile terrorist commanders, including Yellow Danbokkolo, who died from injuries sustained in a firefight with troops.
The director added that a total number of 1,191 suspects were arrested, including gunrunners and kidnappers, while 543 kidnapped victims were rescued.
He observed that 682 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and their families surrendered during the quarter, reflecting the pressure mounted by troops and their overwhelming firepower.

Gen Kangye stressed that the Troops under Operation Delta Safe foiled crude oil thefts estimated at over N3.5 billion, recovering 2.38 million litres of stolen crude oil and other petroleum products.
On the Military’s Stance on Amnesty, the DDMO affirmed that offering amnesty to terrorists is not within the military’s mandate, instead, the decision to grant amnesty would be made by relevant government agencies after studying the cases of surrendered terrorists.
On the detention of Okuama Community Leaders, Maj Gen Kangye clarified that it had not received a court order regarding the detention of leaders of the Okuama community in Delta State, despite reports of its issuance.
