History was made in Nung Udoe on Monday, October 12, 2026, as Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area celebrated two significant milestones: the second anniversary of the New Era Administration of Rt. Hon. (Evang.) Edidiong Joseph Inyang and the 30th anniversary of the creation of the local government area.
The occasion was more than a routine anniversary celebration. It was an opportunity to showcase a model of grassroots governance anchored on empowerment, infrastructure development, social welfare and peaceful coexistence.
Despite the heavy downpour that threatened to dampen the celebration, the Council headquarters in Nung Udoe was filled with excitement as the Chairman chose to mark the milestones not merely with speeches, but with tangible interventions aimed at improving the lives of the people.

Empowerment That Reached the Grassroots
In a major empowerment initiative that reached beneficiaries across the wards, the Inyang-led administration distributed vehicles, motorcycles and financial grants to support livelihoods, stimulate enterprise and improve economic opportunities.
Five beneficiaries received brand-new cars, while two minibuses were distributed to support transport businesses. Ten motorcycles were also presented to young people to promote self-employment and economic independence.
The financial component of the programme was equally significant. Ten beneficiaries received ₦1 million each, another ten received ₦500,000 each, while six others received ₦300,000 each.
Education also received attention, as 12 indigent students were awarded ₦500,000 each in educational support. Eighty traders received ₦200,000 each to strengthen their businesses, while 33 female youths and market women received ₦100,000 each. In addition, five beneficiaries received ₦150,000 each as transport support.
The scale and diversity of the interventions underscored an approach to empowerment that sought to address the needs of different segments of the population, from students and traders to young people and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Rather than limiting empowerment to symbolic gestures, the initiative was designed to provide beneficiaries with resources to pursue education, sustain businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Infrastructure Development: A Visible Scorecard
Beyond the empowerment programme, the anniversary provided an opportunity to showcase infrastructure projects undertaken by the administration.
Prominent among the projects commissioned were the ultra-modern Legislative Chamber, named in honour of Governor Umo Eno, and the remodelled and furnished Administrative Block at the Council headquarters.
The projects represent an investment in the institutional capacity of the local government and the working environment of its legislative and administrative arms.

For a Chairman who assumed office two years ago with a grassroots-oriented leadership philosophy, the administration’s development agenda has also focused on improving roads, public facilities and the general environment across the local government area.
According to the administration’s scorecard, internal and rural roads in Nung Udoe, Ikot Akpa Edok, Afaha Ikot Owop and neighbouring communities have been graded and rehabilitated, improving access to communities and farmlands.
Solar-powered streetlights have also been installed at markets and major junctions to improve visibility and security, while the desilting of drainages and environmental sanitation exercises have contributed to efforts to maintain a cleaner Council headquarters.
These interventions reflect the importance of basic infrastructure in connecting communities, supporting local commerce and improving the everyday experiences of residents.

Education, Healthcare and Agriculture in Focus
In keeping with the people-oriented development priorities of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, the Inyang administration has identified education, healthcare and agriculture as important areas of intervention.
In education, the administration reports that several public primary schools across the 10 wards have been renovated and equipped with desks and learning materials. Bursary support for tertiary students of Ibesikpo Asutan origin has also remained part of its educational interventions.
In the health sector, Primary Healthcare Centres in Ikot Obio Odong, Mbierebe, Ikot Atang and other communities have reportedly received improved equipment and essential medicines, alongside the deployment of additional health workers to rural areas.
Periodic free medical outreaches targeting older persons, women and children have also been part of the administration’s efforts to improve access to healthcare and provide relief to vulnerable residents.
Agriculture, a major source of livelihood in the largely agrarian local government area, has equally received attention. Through support for cooperative farmers, including improved seedlings, fertilisers and small grants, the administration aims to strengthen agricultural production and support food security.
Youth Development and Social Welfare
Youth and women empowerment have featured prominently in the administration’s development agenda.
According to its reported achievements, more than 500 youths and women have been trained and empowered in vocational and entrepreneurial fields, including tailoring, barbing, hairdressing, fish farming, poultry farming, baking and information and communication technology (ICT).
The programme includes starter packs and take-off grants intended to help beneficiaries establish businesses, develop practical skills and become economically self-reliant.
The administration has also maintained welfare interventions for widows, older persons and vulnerable households, complementing the social support programmes of the Akwa Ibom State Government.
These initiatives reflect the importance of combining infrastructure development with direct investments in human capital, particularly among groups that often face barriers to economic opportunity.
Peace, Unity and Inclusive Leadership
Perhaps one of the most important contributions of the Inyang administration is its emphasis on peace, unity and stakeholder engagement.
Although these outcomes may not be as easily measured as completed buildings or distributed grants, peaceful coexistence remains essential to sustainable development.
Over the past two years, the administration has sought to foster cooperation among political stakeholders, traditional institutions, youth groups and women’s organisations.
Its consultative approach places emphasis on respect for traditional rulers, youth participation and the involvement of women in community development initiatives.
For Ibesikpo Asutan, maintaining this atmosphere of cooperation is important to creating an environment in which development projects can progress and community interests can be addressed through dialogue.
A Strong Stakeholder in the ARISE Agenda
Beyond his responsibilities as Council Chairman, Inyang is a committed party stakeholder and supporter of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
Through political engagement and grassroots mobilisation, he has worked with other stakeholders to promote the administration’s development priorities and strengthen the party’s presence across Ibesikpo Asutan.
As the state approaches the next electoral cycle, his political relationships and grassroots network are likely to remain important factors in the local government’s political landscape.
Looking Beyond 30 Years
At 30, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area has more to celebrate than its years of existence. The milestone also offers an opportunity to reflect on its development journey, assess the progress made and identify priorities for the future.
Under Rt. Hon. (Evang.) Edidiong Joseph Inyang, the New Era Administration has placed emphasis on empowerment, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth development and social welfare.
Two years into the administration, its reported achievements provide a basis for assessing its commitment to people-centred governance. The extent to which these interventions translate into lasting improvements in living standards will ultimately be measured by their sustainability, reach and impact on residents.
The task ahead is to consolidate the gains, expand access to opportunities and ensure that development reaches every ward and community.
If the momentum of the first two years is sustained, Ibesikpo Asutan has reason to look to the future with optimism.
For an administration that has made visible development and grassroots empowerment central to its public agenda, the second anniversary offers an opportunity to renew its commitment to the people and deliver even more in the years ahead.
