Ekpri Nsukara Offot Restricts Operations Of Motorcyclists To Checkmate Criminal Activities
...Seeks Cooperation Of Police, Other Security Agencies On The Measures
Ekpri Nsukara Offot, a thickly populated community within the Nwaniba axis of the capital city of Akwa Ibom State, has restricted the use of motorcycles from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the area.
The Village Council, in a statement issued on Saturday, says the action follows a reported upsurge of criminal activities by hoodlums, who use motorcycles to rob and commit various atrocities during the night hours in the community.
The statement, signed by the Village Head-elect, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo; Chairman of the Village Council, Comrade Morris Silas Bassey and the Secretary of Village Council, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim, regrets the inconveniences the action may cause law-abiding citizens.
Accordingly, the community emphasized that the decision to restrict the operations of motorcycles was taken in the overall best interest of society to safeguard lives and property.
“We wish to recall that the Akwa Ibom State Government had in May 2021 announced a restriction on the movement of motorcycles, including power bikes, in the State.

“The State Government had hinged the ban on the fact that criminal elements had taken advantage of motorcycles to engage in criminal activities, thereby endangering the society.
“Accordingly, Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village, following several reported incidences of crimes by motorcycle operators, has resolved to re-enact the ban from 9 pm to 6 am in our community to abate further robberies.
“While we regret the inconveniences the decision may cause law-abiding citizens, we wish to emphasize that it is taken in the overall best interest of the society in safeguarding lives and property,” the statement read.
The village authority has therefore appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command and other security agencies to enforce the restriction forthwith to abate further crimes in the community and its environs.
