
Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a notorious human trafficker, Alex Omosivie, a native of Edo State, during a major crackdown.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, who announced this in a press release in Uyo on Sunday, August 31, 2025, said Omosivie was nabbed on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM.
According to her, the arrest was made following reliable intelligence that Mr Omosivie frequently came to Uyo to traffic young women to various African countries for prostitution and other illicit activities. The PPRO said, “Acting on credible information, a surveillance team located and apprehended the suspect at a hotel on Ring Road 3, Uyo (name withheld),” adding that during the arrest, police rescued two victims (name withheld)
DSP John said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, a deportee from an African country, had recently trafficked two other young women: Odo Asuquo Asuquo, 18, to Libya in July 2025, and Glory Asuquo Asuquo, 16, to Burkina Faso on August 18, 2025.”
Meanwhile, the suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting he was paid ₦50,000 per victim, while the parents of the victims, who were already trafficked, have been contacted to provide statements.
She said Mr Omosivie is currently in police custody as the investigation is in high gear to track and apprehend his accomplices.
