Etim Ekpo Council Boss Takes Awareness Campaign To Rural Communities

 

The Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Udeme Eduo, was on hand to expand the frontiers of COVID -19 awareness campaign in churches all over Etim Ekpo Local Government Area over the weekend.

Driving the sensitization exercise to a close, the campaign train visited different churches in Etim Ekpo to mark the grand finale of the exercise. Prominent among the churches visited were: Elshadai Community Church – Utu – Etim Ekpo, Christ Faith Church headquarters – Utu Ikot Nko, Our Saviour African Church – Utu Nung Akpan Udom, Qua Iboe Church – Utu Nung Akpan Udom, Church of the Nazarene – Etok Uruk Eshiet, Qua Iboe Church – Ibio Nung Achad, Christ Army Church – Utu Ikot Ekpo, amongst others.

Addressing the different congregants, Etim Ekpo CAN Chairman, Elder Usen Umouko, alongside Rev. Emma Gideon informed them that COVID -19 is real and should not be treated with levity.”COVID -19 is a reality and should not be treated with kid gloves. It has degenerated into a pandemic, and as such, the church is therefore urged to adhere strictly to measures reeled out by government and health care providers, in order to prevent the pandemic from spreading. It is on this note that Etim Ekpo Local Government Council has accelerated efforts to reach out to churches today to create awareness on how this evil virus can be prevented”, Rev. Gideon emphasized.

While charging the church community to take adequate steps to prevent the spread of COVID -19 by adhering religiously to preventive measures as announced by the government and World Health Organisation (WHO), the Executive Chairman, Rt. Hon. Udeme Eduo, again distributed hand sanitizers and face masks to worshippers, and as well urged them to stay safe by maintaining social distance, frequent washing of the hands and keeping to respiratory hygiene practice.

It could be recalled that the Chairman had kicked off an aggressive sensitization campaign against COVID-19, taking the fight against the pandemic to different doorsteps in Etim Ekpo with the distribution of quality hand sanitizers, face masks and other preventive kits.

The exercise which commenced at the Council Secretariat on Friday 27, March 2020, witnessed massive turn- out as the 30-Man COVID- 19 Surveillance Committee which was inaugurated by the Chairman and further sub -divided into different groups advanced the campaign to different stopsover and standpoints including Etim Ekpo Motor Park, Iwukem, schools, traditional rulers council – clan heads and village heads to address indigenes of Etim Ekpo on the measures that have been advocated by professional health care providers towards tackling and preventing the pandemic from spreading.
