Etim Ekpo Youths Commend Council Chairman For Good Governance
The adage “one good term deserves another” yesterday played out in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area when thousands of youths of the area stunned the country home of the council chairman, Hon. Udeme Eduo, and expressed gratitude to him for piloting the affairs of the council very well in the last three years.
Eduo was elected in 2017 and his first term is billed to terminate in December 2020 but the youths who chanted various solidarity songs urged the chairman to ignore sponsored protests against him, re-contest and continue the excellent jobs he is doing in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, Hon. Nkopuyo Ukpe explained that the ability of the chairman to efficiently work with state government to restore peace to the once troubled council area is commendable and highly appreciated.
He noted that notwithstanding the volatile and difficult situation witnessed then in Etim Ekpo, the council chairman was able to push for development and unity of the area and pleaded with him to forgive some faceless politicians planning to sponsor few uninformed youths to protest against his second term bid.
The youth leader further highlighted, “we are here in solidarity to you our chairman because of good governance and high performance in office. We have witnessed peace, great facelift in the council headquarters with regular water supply.
“The council under your leadership has also done so much in agro investments, youth empowerment, sports development and creating infrastructure for business to thrive with the building of shopping malls.
“You have also helped to restore peace and sanity to the area and gradually rebuilding the facilities wrecked by the crisis in collaboration with state government. We want continuity in order to consolidate on the gains of the last three years”.
Ukpe who described the council boss as a great team player commended his good working relationship with his councilors and other council staff describing Etim Ekpo as a role model for other councils in terms of Executive and Legislative synergy.
On his own, another youth leader, Mr. Thankgod Jonah, said the youths are strongly behind the re-election of the chairman because of his youth-friendly policies and commitment to the ideals of the party, stressing that the few misguided youths speaking against a second term for the chairman were completely ignorant of the zoning arrangement in the area
According to him, “The council chairman has been very supportive of the party, the youths, women and especially our elders, seeking a second term are both constitutional and conventional.
We have had politicians from Etim Ekpo who have served two terms both in public office and in our great party and Hon. Udeme Eduo will not be an exception, he has done well and it is our desire to have him continue in office for another term of three years to ensure continuity and consolidation of development of the area in the next three years.
Reacting to the support and goodwill messages from the youth groups, the Council Boss, Hon. Udeme Eduo who expressed gratitude to the youths said he will take appropriate decisions at the right time while pledging to continue his developmental strides in the council in conjunction with his executive and councilors.
He urged the youths to support the completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel for the overall benefit of the State.
He appealed to the youths to ignore the antics of some self-centered politicians plotting to distort the zoning and political history of the area and use them for their selfish political projects stressing, that his administration will continue to carry them along in governance and development of the area.
