First 100 Days: Eastern Obolo Council Chairman Begins On A Good Note

…As education, Health, Electricity, Empowerment, Others Take Focus

Commendations have trailed the first 100 days of the administration of the Executive Chairman of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, Hon. Elder Abraham Matthias Odion for his superb performances.

The applauses coming from far and near followed the public unveiling of Elder Odion’s scorecard during the period under review, as he is fulfilling the lofty campaign promises he made with verifiable strides.

A perusal of the scorecard speaks greatly of a man who came prepared, not one who justifies ineptitude with flimsy excuses.He live, work and relate well with his people, feeling the pulse of the people is a key leadership quality.His administration, anchoring on boosting human capacity, has facilitated free computer/ICT training for the youth of Eastern Obolo.

The training, with hundreds of beneficiaries, is designed to make the youths of Eastern Obolo key into the revolutionary digital era and earn a living from it.

Also, giving of grants for small scale businesses and payment of school fees also feature prominently on his human capacity development template.

Installation of electric poles across Eastern Obolo

Added to these accomplishments are the training of scaffolders and riggers by the council. In line to fast-track development of infrastructure, Hon. Odion has restored electricity in the area via extensive wiring and restoration of fallen poles.

According to him, with stable power supply, Eastern Obolo stands a chance of being rescued from underdevelopment.

Writing desks presented to schools in Eastern Obolo

In education, the chairman provided desks to pupils of St. Agnes Anglican Primary school Ikonta/Obianga and others in the local government area, which hitherto had no desks.

He has set up a committee to plan for the payment of bursary to students in higher institutions and the distribution of 600 bursary forms is ongoing.

Tours to rural areas for distribution of drugs and essential health materials

Under healthcare, the 100 days witnessed the donation of free essential drugs to Primary Health Center, Obianga/Ikonta, as well as payment of hospital bills to some patients across the LGA.

The council boss says his administration is in sync with the Completion Agenda of Mr Udom Emmanuel, commending the governor for the massive support and cooperation extended to local government councils.

He has reassured his people that the months and years ahead shall be glorious in the area and thanked Eastern Obolo for trusting him with their mandate.

At the Primary Health Center, Obianga/Ikonta, the Nursing Officer in charge, Iquo Abraham Silas appreciated the chairman, Elder Odion for his kind gestures in providing them with free essential drugs as well as covering the payment of hospital bills to some patients.

She said, “On behalf of this great health centre, I am grateful to the Almighty who has made this day, a reality. What we have seen now is a thing of joy and greatness in our minds. I equally give praise to our honourable chairman, who deems fit for this community to be treated – the young, the aged and others. We thank you so much. May your administration bring good things. May long live be your portion in Jesus mighty name.”

In his reaction, the Head teacher of St. Agnes Anglican Primary School, Ikonta/ Obianga, Mr Amos Zephaniah Amos, commended the state governor fordeclaring a state of emergency on education in Akwa Ibom State.

Amos lauded the efforts of the chairman of Eastern Obolo LGA, Elder Odion for his devotion and love for education.

“He has supplied writing desks/benchesto primary schools in Eastern Obolo. We are so much grateful to him,” he stated.

He further appealed to the state government to come to the aid of primary education in the area, pointing out that schools in the area are in need of teachers, as they are presenting having only four teachers as posted by the State Universal Primary Education Board (SUBEB).

Also speaking, Mr. Nelson Otuikor, chairman of Ward 9 of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who is also the chairman of Wards’ Chairmen Forum in Eastern Obolo, appreciated the council chairman for making the party proud through his superlative performances within his first 100 days in office. Otuikor pledged the continuous cooperation of the party and the people to hisleadership and urged him to remain firm and fair in his administration.
