Four Arrested​ As Police Crack Down On Illicit Drug Trade In Uyo

The Police in Akwa Ibom State have mounted a crackdown on illicit drug black spots within Uyo metropolis, the state capital.

So far the operations have led to the arrest ​of four men, namely Gideon Patrick Edet; Paul Joseph Effiong; Mfon Cletus Ikpe and Gideon Edet Etim.

DSP Timfon John, LLB, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, announced the outcome of the operations in a press release in Uyo on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Illicit drug trade in Uyo

She said Operatives of the Command, following credible intelligence, undertook a series of raids on several suspected illicit drug black spots within the Uyo metropolis at approximately 10:00PM on Monday, August 18, 2025.

According to her, apart from a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs and substances suspected to be Indian hemp being recovered, some suspects behind the trade were apprehended.

DSP John assured that ​investigations are ongoing to bring other perpetrators to book, in their bold bid to rid Uyo and the entire state of bad elements.

The press release read, “Based on credible information, Operatives of the Command conducted a series of raids on several suspected illicit drug black spots within the Uyo metropolis at approximately 10:00PM on Monday, August 18, 2025.

“​The coordinated operation led to the arrest of four male suspects namely: Gideon Patrick Edet ‘m’, Paul Joseph Effiong ‘m’, Mfon Cletus Ikpe ‘m’, Gideon Edet Etim ‘m’.

“A large quantity of suspected illicit drugs and substances suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.”
