FUTIA Matriculates Over 1,000 Students

… Announces Automatic Employment For 1st Class Students At Graduation 

The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) has admitted and matriculated over 1,000 students into the Twenty Four Degree Programmes of the University for the 2024/2025 academic session.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTIA, Professor Leo Daniel on behalf of the Governing Council, Management and Senate of the University congratulated the students and on their successful admission and matriculation ceremony.

“Let me stress that your admissions into this Institution is a major milestone in your preparation for the future of many possibilities for you, your parents, families, communities and the nation but this will however be dependent on your levels of commitment to your studies, research, innovations, academic excellence, sportsmanship and extracurricular activities”, the FUTIA VC stressed.

Speaking further, the Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics said: “Let me emphasize that FUTIA is one of the specialized institutions established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to champion academic excellence in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Innovation and Research. We are committed to giving you the best training so that you can become useful members of the society upon your graduation. We have well trained lecturers and faculties that will enable you come out tops in your respective fields. I want to add that you are privileged to be among the 2nd batch of students admitted into the University following the pioneer set admitted in the last academic session”.

The University don while addressing the matriculants warned: “Please note that the Governing Council and Management of the University have zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, indecent dressing, drug abuse, cyber-crimes and other social vices. Any student found wanting will face appropriate disciplinary measures including outright rustication from the University where applicable”.

The Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Governing Council and Management of the University expressed appreciation to the parents, guardians and sponsors of the students for the huge investment in the education of their children and wards and particularly for supporting their choice of FUTIA over other institutions in the country to train their children; pledging to justify the trust by training them to be worthy in learning and character upon graduation.

The Pioneer Vice Chancellor used the occasion to appreciate the commitment of the Management Team, Staff (Teaching and Non-Teaching), other members of the University Community for their commitment to the promotion of academic excellence, best administrative services and teamwork geared towards the overall achievement of the University’s goals.

He equally acknowledged the roles of other critical stakeholders of the Institution including the Federal Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFUND), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), among others for their contributions to the development of the University and the education sector.

The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to announce that the Governing Council and Management of the University have approved and reserved automatic employments to First Class graduates of the University in addition to other prizes as additional motivation to boast academic excellence and competitiveness; charging them to take advantage of the opportunities.

Goodwill message was received from Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mrs Grace Olima Williams.

At the event, the Bursar of the University, Dr Mbobo Erasmus Mbobo disclosed to the matriculants the Federal Government’s Intervention in the funding of Students’ Tuition through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). He commended the Federal Government for the initiative while charging the students to take advantage of the scheme.

The oath of studentship was administered on the Matriculants by the Registrar and Secretary to the Senate of the University, Mrs Offiongita E. Nkang while the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel formally admitted them as students of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi.

The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof. Nse Essien. In attendance also were the University Librarian, Prof. Philip Akor, Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Felicia Etim, members of the University Senate, Provosts, Heads of Departments, Directors of Directorates, staff, members of the University Community and parents among others.
