General Akpan Was A Good Ambassador – Senator Albert

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan has described Late Major-General Edet Akpan (Rtd.) as a good ambassador of the district during his life time.

The late retired two-star general and a one time director general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), hailed from Nsit Atai Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District.

Senator Albert, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), in a letter of commiseration to the bereaved family, said he “was deeply saddened to learn of the demise of your beloved husband and father, Late Major-General Edet Adem Akpan (Rtd.), OFR.”

It read, “On behalf of my family and constituents of Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, I commiserate with you and your entire family on his passage.

“A clip from your father’s worthwhile career in the Nigerian Army and participation in community, political, ecclesiastical, entrepreneurial and socio-cultural endeavours clearly shows that he was indeed a trailblazer, a great personage, mentor and an iconic leader, whose impact spanned Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and far beyond.”

Senator Albert, popularly known as OBA, said “Worthy of note were his contributions to the creation of Akwa Ibom State, among other endeavours he did towards the state’s growth, unity and development.”

He further noted that “These laudable activities eminently stood him out as an ambassador for Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, as a native of Nsit Atai, one of our senatorial district’s nine local government areas. I trust that his legacies will be sustained.”

OBA committed the family into “God’s abiding grace, care and fortitude, while also wishing the soul of the departed, peaceful rest in the Lord, Amen.”

The late retired general passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 and will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 25, 2020 in his country home, Owok Obio Aduang, Nsit Atai LGA.
