President General of Oron Union, the apex body for Oro nation in Akwa Ibom State has scored Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel highly on issues concerning the welfare and development of Oro people since his emergence in 2015.

Bishop Etim Ante, who emerged as President-General on December 28, 2019 says the people of Oro ethnic nationality have fared far better under the administration of Mr Udom Emmanuel as governor compared to what were obtained in recent administrations in the state.

Bishop Ante while speaking in an exclusive interview with Crystal Express in his office, explained that the indices covers political appointments, which cover such office as Secretary to State Government, amongst other levels of appreciable progress.

“The truth is that in terms of political appointment one may think that we are not fairly treated. But my calculation is that if Oro as one leg of the tripod was given the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), in the wisdom of the system, it means a lot to the people.

“If such a race can also produce a senator, one cannot say such a people have been marginalized. I am also aware that certain persons from Oro nation have been appointed by this present administration as senior special assistants to the governor. All these are positive indications that Mr Emmanuel’s led government is positively disposed to the plights and yearnings Oro people,” he explained.

On infrastructural development, Bishop Ante said the present administration has undertaken good numbers of roads across the five local government areas of Oro nation that were either neglected or abandoned by previous governments in the state.

He mentioned Mbo, Udung Uko, and Okobo local government areas as direct beneficiaries of the state government intervention efforts which according to him were long neglected by previous administrations.

“We did not have all this grace in time past. The road in Udung Uko that leads to Mbo, Ekim, Edikor and Eyo Abasi is about 4 km long. That was the same road that the late Ahta Etim Atti Okpo was crying out to successive administrations to construct but to no avail until this administration came and graciously intervened,” he narrated.

“I am also aware that the governor has done some other roads in Oro nation. Some of them are ongoing and some completed. We are sure that before the end of this dry season, some of the roads that are ongoing would have been completed,” the president general stressed.

While calling on the citizens to always engage the government in constructive criticism rather than castigating the governor without facts and figures, the President General of Oron Union maintained that his administration does not intend to throw stones on the government as such cannot yield any positive efforts.

“The fact remains that government is not a tea party. If anyone should castigate the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel, he should criticize constructively with facts and figures. I am not talking this way because I am close to the system. There are things I may not say because my administration is not intended to throw stones because we equally live a glass house,” he remarked.
