Hon. Moses Essien Gives 110 Ibiono Ibom Students Academic Grant

The member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon Moses Essien, has doled out academic grants of N20,000 each to 110 students drawn from the 11 INEC wards of the area studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The grant donated on Friday, May 23, 2025, is to assist them in their academic pursuits in line with the ARISE Agenda of the state government as it relates to educational advancement.

At the event, Essien recalled that on his assumption of office in June 2023, he launched a N5million academic grant among other achievements and this was about the third batch, adding that more Ibiono Ibom youths would benefit in future.

He said that he was passionate about assisting the students given his pedigree as a former student leader and founding president of Ibiono Ibom Youths for Democracy and Development, the umbrella youth group in the area.

Essien, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Health and Food Security, at the quarterly youth summit of Ibiono Ibom Youths for Democracy and Development applauded the contributions of Senator and Mrs Bassey Albert in years past towards the academic and sports uplift of the youths from the area through his financial support and promised to launch a Hon. Moses Essien Unity Cup as part of the programmes in the 2025 youth summit coming up later in the year with a rolling fund of N1m.

Otuekong Emmanuel Ekpa while presenting some of the beneficiaries with the grant said Essien has done well and urged him to sustain the tempo as Ibiono Ibom people were proud of him, noting that the heart to give to those really in need like the students was highly appreciated.

Earlier, the president of the youth group, Prince Godwin Asanga, lauded the member for his selfless service to the people and called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant even if it meant buying a textbook in their field of study to remember this gesture.

Mr Asanga called on both the central planning committee for the 2025 youth summit and the Editorial Board for the NTAKROK Magazine shortly after he inaugurated them to do their best to ensure the success of the summit.

The well-attended event attracted other dignitaries including two former chairmen from the area, Rt. Hon. EkpoAbasi Akpan and Evangelist Joseph Udo; leader of Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, some serving supervisors, among others.
