A liquid soap producer, in Ekwulobia Street, in Mile 3 axis of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Rivers State, Mrs Iniobong Emmanson, says she makes an average of N7000 daily producing liquid soap in her neighborhood and selling same for regular washing of hands as a preventive measure against the ravaging Coronavirus.
Mrs Emmanson’s statement came on the heels of the street sensitization on the prevention of COVID-19 carried out by the Rapid Response Team (RRT) in her domain.
Speaking in a telephone interview with RCCE correspondent, Emmanson thanked UNICEF and the State Government for the sensitization which, she said, has opened her eyes to the implications of COVID-19 infection, and on how she can use this period of the pandemic to improve her economic life.
”Making soap has helped me a lot now. I no longer beg to feed my three children and renew my monthly rent of N5000. The COVID-19 pandemic has made my business to flourish”, she disclosed.
”I sell my soap in litres and bottles with a bottle costing as low as 50 to 100 naira. I also supply to churches, car wash centres and restaurants”, she said.
The liquid soap, according to her, comes in different colours of lemon, yellow, pink, blue, etc, “with irresistible fragrance”, she added’.
Mrs Emmanson expressed willingness to train widows like her in the skill of soap production for them to be financially empowered to cater for their families.
Also speaking, a member of the Landlord Association in the area, Mr Dominic Fubara, who is also Mrs Emmanson’s neighbour, expressed gratitude to RCCE for the sensitization and promised to ensure that compliance to the COVID-19 safety protocols is maintained in his area.
He further said he would relate the preventive message of regular hand washing, wearing of nose mask and social distancing to other members of his association.
