The International Coordinator of 1001+ Voices Initiative for People’s Empowerment, Obong Ide Owodiong-Idemeko was one of the participants at the 2021 Security and Economy Leadership Summit held recently at Rosmohr Hotels, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.
The summit which was organized by Forum of Past Student Leaders, University of Uyo aka Ukat Caucus, had as its theme “The Governance Conundrum: Evolving Strategic Leadership Models for a Secured Society and a Balanced State Economy.”
Speaking at the event, Hon Justice Ntong F. Ntong, who was the keynote speaker, explained that the problem with Nigeria lies in the failure of leadership.
According to him, “Leadership should not compromise any standard; leadership must have an undiluted humility. Therefore, as a leader, it is incumbent on you to return someone’s call, it enhances your integrity.
Hon. Justice Ntong F. Ntong further highlighted that good leadership builds society and engenders socio-political cum economic enhancement in any given society.

One of the discussants, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area noted that everyone desires a good, workable, and responsible leadership which must be sacrificial.
The council boss opined that Local Governments exist to solve basic problems, thus those elected to serve as leaders must be willing to serve.
Throwing lights on the challenges of leadership in Nigerian Local Government areas, the council chairman cited corruption and administrative bureaucracy as the bane of good leadership.
He also lamented that skewed revenue sharing formula from the federation account needs emergency review while emphasizing that LGA autonomy is good when there is so much money to settle bills and bad when the finances are poor.
