The letter of condolence addressed to the widow, Mrs Funmi Idongesit Nkanga and family, reads, “The impact of his life as an officer and gentleman, a gallant Air Force Pilot, first indigenous Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chairman of PANDEF, distinctive services in the aviation sector and very outstanding community services are such that tributes would be insufficient to truly catalogue his life and times.
“Our departed son was a compassionate leader who was very committed to everything concerning his career, Niger Delta struggles and development, and the wellbeing of Ibibio land and Akwa Ibom State in general.
“His passage has therefore deprived us of a sagacious and ebullient character. The history of Akwa Ibom Sate cannot be complete without a generous mention of the role he played during his stint as Military Governor of the State especially in laying the foundation of the present day Akwa Ibom, particularly the building of the most beautiful and outstanding State Secretariat Complex in Nigeria, Uyo named after him.
The council noted that, “Like a bitter pill, his death is too difficult to swallow” adding that “Idongesit Akwa Ibom will forever remain in the memory of our people, Niger Deltans, Nigerians and the global community as well. Indeed, his transition occurred at a time that his invaluable contributions were most needed.”
Ifim Ibom Ibibio in their commiseration, prayed to the Almighty God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and for the eternal repose of the soul of late Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga.
