A youth group of Ituk Mbang in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has decried the abuse of political zoning system in the local government and called on Governor Udom Emmanuel to address the anomaly before the election.
The group in a letter to the governor signed by its president, Mr Paul Nkanga, maintained that the zoning system has been the standard practice in the LGA, adding that when a particular community produces a councillor, it would be the turn of another in the next political dispensation.

However, they lamented that certain elements have destabilised and hijacked the system in the local government to the detriment of Ntuk Mbang community.
The letter reads in part: “The zoning of political position has been the standard practice of the day is that when Ituk Mbang produces a councillor, the next turn will be for Nung Ikono Ufok. This is the usual trend today.
“Unfortunately, the zoning just got a different dimension this time around. The arrangement was that Nung Ikono Ufok should take the position of vice chairmanship of Uruan LG which they are holding presently since the councillorship is in Ituk Mbang, so that in 2020 since Ward 4 will be producing the chairman, Ituk Mbang will produce chairman and Nung Ikono Ufok will then produce the councillor.
“Surprisingly, the zoning system was destabilised, leaving Ituk Mbang without any political position. We want the governor to use his good offices to restore the zoning system and give the people of Ituk Mbang the chairmanship position which they deserve.”
