Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation Marks Second Anniversary 2025 International Widows’ Day

The Founder of the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG), Dr. Glory Edet, has attributed the successes recorded by the foundation in the last two years to God’s grace and mercy.
Dr Edet stated this at the second anniversary celebration of the foundation, which was held at the Governor’s Office Annex, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, Saturday, June 28, 2025.
She paid tribute to the late missionary Mary Mitchell Slessor and the wonderful story of how she stopped the killing of twins and other multiple-birth children, as well as the banishment of their mothers in Nigeria.
The former Dean of Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers in Akwa Ibom State recalled that the foundation, which was officially inaugurated on June 28, 2023, aims to sustain the legacies of Mary Mitchel Slessor, support multiple birth children and parents, indigent students, youths, vulnerable women, widows etc. within the capacity of the foundation.
Dr. Edet also eulogised the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor (Dr.) Umo Eno for providing a conducive environment in the state as well as caring for widows, the elderly and the less privileged in the state.
Reviewing developments in the past two years, Dr Edet said her foundation has kept faith with its mission mandate in providing scholarships to students in tertiary institutions, training and empowerment of youths with financial packages, small scale business grants to multiple-birth parents and children, support to widows, skills acquisition, distribution of sewing machines, hair dryers and accessories, distribution of baby-support packages/payment of hospital bills for multiple-birth mothers, etc.
“Our first anniversary was marked with the Pastors’ wives and widows. We gave support to them selected across the Churches and today, we are celebrating our 2nd Anniversary with widows, drawn from across the 31 LGAs of the state,” she said.
“By the grace of God, we will try our best and continue to touch lives,” she added.
