Mr Akwa Ibom USA Initiates Shoes Support Scheme For School Children In Akwa Ibom State

Idoteyin Umana, the reigning Mr AKISAN 2025/2026 of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, USA Inc., has launched a humanitarian initiative to support school children in Akwa Ibom State.

To this end, the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria (AKISAN), AKISAN Metro Detroit Chapter, family and friends of Mr AKISAN have earmarked the provision of over 662 shoes for students in selected schools across the three senatorial districts in the State. This will ensure that hundreds of children receive the footwear they need to attend school safely and with dignity.

Among the selected schools are St. John’s Primary School, Ikot Ayan Itam, Itu LGA; St. James African Church Primary School, Okopedi Itiam, Uyo LGA; Holy Child Catholic Primary School, Nung Udoe Itak, Ikono LGA; and QIC Primary School, Okon Town, Ikot Abasi LGA.

The presentation exercise will commence on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. James African Church Primary School, Okopedi Itiam, Uyo Local Government Area, at 11 am.

The program, themed “Footprints of Hope – Shoe Drive for Akwa Ibom Children”, is driven by Umana as part of his Community Development Project under his reign as Mr AKISAN for the 2025/2026 service year.

In a statement, the organisers noted that “Many children in Akwa Ibom State still walk long distances to school without shoes, exposed to injury, infection, and shame.

“Mr. AKISAN 2025/2026, Idoteyin Umana, with the support of AKISAN Metro Detroit Chapter, is raising funds to provide shoes for students in 10 schools across the three senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

They stated that “When a child has shoes, they walk taller. They stay in school. They believe they belong there.”

The organisers called on public-spirited individuals and organisations to partner and support the scheme, assuring that any amount given will help a child stay in school and walk with confidence.

They advised donors to donate via Zelle: Akisanmetrodetroit@gmail.com

They also advised that for questions or to pledge support, interested persons or organisations should call/text: 313-878-1426 or 586-277-2278.
