NDDC Unveils 25th Anniversary Logo, Festival Mascot

In a historic ceremony held in Nigeria’s historic city of Owerri, the capital of Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodinma unveiled the 25th-anniversary logo and festival mascot of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The event marked a significant milestone for the NDDC as it celebrates 25 years of developmental interventions in the country’s Niger Delta region.
Governor Uzodinma expressed his delight at hosting the landmark event in Imo State, stating that it signifies the state’s safety and readiness to host significant gatherings.
He congratulated the NDDC on its 25th anniversary, acknowledging the Commission’s resilience in overcoming various challenges over the years.
“The NDDC is a commission that is very dear to our hearts. The Act that established it reflects the commitment to addressing developmental gaps in the Niger Delta.
“As an important institution, the NDDC remains a treasure to all states along the shoreline, driving progress and development in the region,” Governor Uzodinma declared.
He emphasized that the NDDC is not in competition with state governments but serves as a complementary agency, working alongside states to enhance development efforts.

The governor also highlighted the momentum of the Renewed Hope Agenda across the Niger Delta states, reinforcing a shared vision for growth and prosperity.
On behalf of the NDDC Advisory Council, Governor Uzodinma extended heartfelt congratulations to the Commission and reaffirmed unwavering support for its mission.
He expressed gratitude for the decision to host the event in Imo State and looked forward to continued collaboration for the benefit of the region’s people.
In his address, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, thanked Governor Uzodinma for hosting the unveiling ceremony.
He reiterated the Commission’s determination to make the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda a reality in the Niger Delta region.
Dr. Ogbuku restated his commitment to the mandate given to the NDDC by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to change the narrative in Nigeria’s oil-producing region.
He affirmed that the Commission is engaging all stakeholders to ensure harmony and cooperation in the task of developing the Niger Delta.
Highlighting recent achievements, Dr. Ogbuku recalled that between May 18 and May 28, 2024, the NDDC commissioned five major development projects across the region.
These included the 27.5-kilometre Ogbia-Nembe Road, constructed in partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), and the 6 km Iko-Atabrikang-Akata-Opulom-Ikot Inwang-Okoroutip-Iwochang Road and 600 m Ibeno Bridge in Akwa Ibom State.
In the area of electricity, the NDDC commissioned the 45-km double-circuit 33KV feeder line from Omotosho Power Station to Okitipupa in Ondo State, bringing light to 25 local governments that had been in darkness for 15 years.
Dr. Ogbuku reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transformational leadership and accountability.
He revealed that the NDDC had engaged the globally renowned audit firm KPMG to review its operations.
The recommendations from the audit report will be fully implemented to enhance transparency and efficiency.
“There have been anomalies in the past, but we are focused on the future. We agreed with KPMG to begin implementing the report’s recommendations,” Dr. Ogbuku stated.
He also acknowledged the region’s high demand for solar power projects and promised that more communities would benefit from the Light Up the Niger Delta project.
The NDDC’s 25th anniversary will feature a series of activities, including the commissioning of completed projects.
A major highlight will be the inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival, aimed at fostering regional integration and developing amateur sporting talents.
The festival is scheduled to take place in Akwa Ibom State.
Dr. Ogbuku emphasized the importance of unity in diversity, stating, “We have to work on our diversity and ensure that we have unity in diversity. We are united as Niger Deltans because God has brought us together into one geographical region where we have common ecological and environmental challenges.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the NDDC Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, who also chairs the Planning Committee for the logo and mascot unveiling, stressed the need for regional integration.
He explained that the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival was conceived to build and foster regional unity.
Alabo Iyaye announced that July 12, 2025, will mark 25 years since the creation of the NDDC.
He invited stakeholders to join in celebrating 25 years of developmental interventions and making a difference in the Niger Delta.
“This logo will be used in all official transactions of the Commission throughout the year 2025, marking the symbol of our celebration.
“As part of this celebration, the Commission is holding its maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival,” he said.
In his goodwill message, Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, thanked President Tinubu for his commitment to the progress of the Niger Delta through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He assured that the Senate Committee would continue to provide effective oversight to ensure the NDDC fulfils its mandate and drives sustainable development across the region.
