NDLEA Arrests 169 Suspects, Seizes 194kgs Of Hard Drugs In Bayelsa

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bayelsa State Command, says it has arrested 169 suspected drug dealers in the state between 2019 and 2020 and seized 193.832kgs of hard drugs.
The NDLEA commander in the state, Mr Kopi Maulsei, who announced this in Yenagoa on Friday while speaking with newsmen to mark the 2020 United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, said from the ages of drug addicts arrested, it shows that youths mainly consume drugs for the purpose of socializing and entertainment.
He said: “From the arrests we made, we observed that drugs are smuggled into the state by non-indigenes who mostly do not reside here.
“They usually come in to deliver their wares to pocket of dealers. This leaves us with the problem of managing drug dependence and its resultant health and social issues such as armed robbery, cultism, rape and kidnaping.
“The command has also seized 193.832kgs of hard drugs comprising 102.223kgs of cannabis sativa; 0.035kg of cocaine; 0.065kg of heroin; 2.5kgs of Tramadol 2,854 Tabs.
“We also seized 0.094kg of swinol, 2.136kgs of diazepam, 0.676kg of Codeine, 11 bottles, 86.103kgs of koskorine mixtures of cannabis/alcohol.
“We intercepted 63kgs of cannabis, 0.253kg of cocaine, 0.009kg of heroin and the total grammes is 63.262kgs.
