Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Sen. Ita Enang Assumes Office

Nigeria’s new ambassador to Germany, Senator (Dr) Ita Solomon Enang, OFR, NPOM, formally assumed office on Thursday as he presented his Letters of Credence to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a ceremony in the Bellevue Palace, Berlin.

The presentation of the Letters of Credence marks the full accreditation of Senator Enang as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Germany, which is Europe’s largest economy.

During the brief but symbolic ceremony, Ambassador Enang presented three instruments to President Steinmeier on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. These were a Letter of Credence, accrediting him as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany; a Letter of Recall, formally withdrawing Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador; as well as a Letter of Appointment, confirming his nomination and posting to Berlin.

Conveying President Tinubu’s warm greetings, Senator Enang, who was accompanied by his dear wife, Dr. Rose Enang, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening strategic partnership with Germany in trade, investment, energy, skills development, education, and migration management.

President Steinmeier, while welcoming the new ambassador, expressed Germany’s readiness to work closely with Nigeria on shared priorities, including economic cooperation, security, and the welfare of citizens of both countries.

Following the presentation, the Nigerian Embassy in Berlin hosted a reception in honour of H.E. Senator Ita Enang as the official flag bearer of Nigeria to Germany.

The event drew a high-level diplomatic turnout, including ambassadors and chargé d’affaires of other countries accredited to Germany, senior officials of the German Federal Foreign Office, and representatives of international organisations based in Berlin.

It was also well attended by leaders and members of the Nigerian Community in Germany, with a strong delegation from the Akwa Ibom Community in Berlin. Community leaders described the appointment as a proud moment for Nigeria and for Akwa Ibom State, noting Senator Enang’s long record in public service.

In his remarks, Ambassador Enang thanked President Tinubu for the trust placed in him and pledged to serve as “a bridge of prosperity” between Nigeria and Germany.

“My mandate is clear: to project a new Nigeria that is open for business, to protect and promote the welfare of Nigerians in Germany, and to attract German investment, technology, and skills partnerships into Nigeria,” he said.

He specifically highlighted opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, the blue economy, renewable energy, and technical and vocational education, areas he said align with both nations’ development goals.

Leaders of the Nigerian and Akwa Ibom communities used the occasion to present some of the challenges faced by Nigerians in Germany, including consular services, education, and professional recognition.

Ambassador Enang assured them of an open-door policy at the embassy and promised to prioritise diaspora welfare and engagement.

“We are one people, one nation. The Embassy will be home to all Nigerians. We will work together to project the best of Nigeria abroad,” he told the gathering.

Senator Enang’s assumption of office comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to strengthen economic ties with Germany under the Tinubu administration’s foreign policy thrust of economic diplomacy.

Bilateral trade between both countries exceeded $3 billion in 2025, with Germany being one of Nigeria’s key partners in renewable energy, automotive, and vocational training. Germany also hosts one of the largest Nigerian diaspora populations in Europe.

Political observers note that Senator Ita Enang brings extensive legislative and executive experience to the role, having served as a senator, special adviser to the President on National Assembly matters, and SSA on Niger Delta affairs.

With the presentation of credentials now complete, Ambassador Ita Enang is expected to immediately commence full diplomatic engagements in Berlin, including meetings with German government officials, investors, and institutions.

The embassy said the Ambassador will, in the coming weeks, embark on outreach to Nigerian communities across Germany.
