Nsit Atai Chairman Charges Farmers to Embrace Tree Crop Revolution

...As Council Trains Farmers Ahead Of Oil Palm Seedlings Distribution

The Nsit Atai Local Government Area has commenced preparations for the distribution of oil palm seedlings under Governor Umo Eno’s Tree Crop Revolution initiative with a farmers’ training seminar organised in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP).

The training, which took place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Council Hall, Odot, brought together farmers and stakeholders from across the local government area to equip them with the knowledge and skills required for the successful cultivation and management of oil palm seedlings.

The AKADEP team, led by Dr Uwemedimo Anana, took participants through various aspects of oil palm cultivation, including proper planting techniques, nursery management, field establishment, and the economic benefits of oil palm production.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, welcomed the AKADEP team and commended Governor Umo Eno for the Tree Crop Revolution initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, wealth creation, and food security across the state.

The Chairman urged farmers to take the training seriously and make the most of the opportunity, noting that the knowledge acquired would help them maximise the benefits of the programme and ensure the successful cultivation of the oil palm seedlings upon distribution.

He described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of agriculture and rural economic development, while encouraging participants to fully embrace the programme.

Farmers and stakeholders who attended the seminar expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for the initiative, pledging to apply the knowledge gained and contribute to the expansion of oil palm production in the area.
