Nsit Atai Chairman Hails Gov Eno As 3.09km Ikot Essien–Ikot Uyo Road Is Commissioned

The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has commended the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for the construction and commissioning of the 3.09-kilometre Ikot Essien–Ikot Uyo Road, saying the project will improve connectivity and ease movement across communities in the area.
Hon. Nyong stated this on Saturday, September 19, 2026, during the commissioning of the road as part of activities marking Akwa Ibom State’s 39th anniversary celebrations.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for the intervention, noting that the road would provide safer and more convenient access for motorists and residents while strengthening links between Nsit Atai and neighbouring communities.
“This road will significantly ease movement for our people, particularly residents who have had to contend with difficult access over the years. It will also make the movement of agricultural produce and other goods easier,” Hon. Nyong said.
He noted that the road commissioning was part of a series of state government projects delivered in Nsit Atai during the month, including the ARISE Model Primary School at Ikot Akpabio, the ARISE Youth Development Centre at Odot and the ARISE Compassionate Home at Ibedu.

The Chairman also mentioned the Nsit Atai–Okobo Dual Carriageway, which he said was billed for commissioning, adding that the concentration of major projects in the local government within the period demonstrated the Governor’s commitment to the development and wellbeing of the people of Nsit Atai.
According to Hon. Nyong, the people of Nsit Atai had expressed gratitude for the interventions and were prepared to demonstrate their appreciation at the polls in 2027.
“Nsit Atai people are grateful to His Excellency for what he is doing in our communities, and we are ready to reciprocate this gesture at the ballot in 2027,” he said.
He added that the new road would support local economic activities and make transportation easier for residents, traders and schoolchildren, while assuring the governor of the continued support and cooperation of the Nsit Atai Local Government Council.
The Governor, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning, was represented by former Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator (Obong) Bassey Albert.
Senator Albert commended Governor Eno for what he described as an inclusive approach to project commissioning and governance, saying the involvement of stakeholders reflected a sense of unity and collective responsibility.
He said the road would enable thousands of residents to access their communities without having to travel through Uyo, adding that the project formed part of the State Government’s wider road infrastructure programme across Akwa Ibom.
Giving an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, said the road comprises a 3.09-kilometre single carriageway with a width of 3.7 metres, supported by road pavement and drainage infrastructure designed to enhance durability, water management and long-term serviceability.
He explained that the project was undertaken to address the long-standing transportation difficulties experienced by communities along the route and restore efficient access within the area.
Speaking on behalf of stakeholders, former Vice Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. MC Akpan, appreciated the Governor for the intervention and highlighted its importance to the benefiting communities.
In separate goodwill messages, Hon. Justice Nsemeke U. Daniel of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, the Member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency, Hon. Prince Aniefiok Attah, the Member representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Mark Esset, and the Paramount Ruler, HRM Edidem (Prophet) Peter Okon Effiong, also commended the Governor for the project.
The speakers noted that the improved road would strengthen economic activities, enhance interaction among communities and improve access to markets and other essential services.
