The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has inaugurated the Nsit Atai Transport Regulation and Enforcement Task Force with a mandate to regulate transport activities, promote compliance and maintain order within the transport sector across the area.
The inauguration, held at the Nsit Atai Local Government Secretariat, Odot, is part of the administration’s recent efforts to ensure a more organised, orderly and law-abiding transport system in the Local Government Area.
Inaugurating the task force, Hon Nyong charged the members to discharge their responsibilities with discipline, fairness and respect for the law, stressing that their mandate must be carried out within the ambit of the law and in the best interest of the people.
He said the task force was not established to intimidate, harass or exploit transport workers, but to bring sanity and proper coordination to transport activities in the area.
The Chairman urged the members to exercise their authority responsibly, avoid arbitrary actions and ensure that all enforcement activities were conducted professionally and transparently.

He further called on them to work closely with the Council and relevant security agencies to address activities capable of disrupting the smooth operation of the transport sector.
He explained that the task force would, among other responsibilities, monitor and regulate passenger loading activities, ensure compliance with designated loading points and approved transport arrangements, check illegal or unauthorised ticketing, and discourage practices that exploit commuters or create disorder within the transport system.
According to him, the body would also monitor the activities of transport unions and operators, promote adherence to applicable transport regulations, identify areas of non-compliance and report violations to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
Prince Nyong further charged the task force to adopt dialogue and engagement where appropriate, noting that enforcement should be carried out with fairness and a clear understanding of the rights and responsibilities of both transport operators and commuters.
He called on transport workers and operators in Nsit Atai to cooperate with the task force and support the Council’s efforts to build a transport system that guarantees order, accountability and convenience for residents.
Earlier, the Chairman of the task force, Mr. Usen Udo Nteyoho, expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for the confidence reposed in the members and the opportunity to contribute to the regulation of transport activities in the Local Government Area.
He pledged to work with other members of the task force and relevant stakeholders to ensure that its mandate was executed responsibly and within the limits of the law. He also promised effective collaboration with the Council to address existing challenges and promote a more organised transport system in Nsit Atai.
Also speaking, the representative of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solomon Nyakno, advised members to remain law-abiding and cautioned them against abusing the authority entrusted to them. He urged them to carry out their duties responsibly and avoid actions that could undermine public confidence in the task force.
The members of the task force had earlier taken the oath of office and oath of allegiance before formally assuming their responsibilities.
The task force is chaired by Mr. Usen Udo Nteyoho with Peace James Orok as Secretary. Other members are Mr Ability Bassey Jack, Provost; Uduak Inyang Robson; Effiong Effiong Udo; Mfon Tom Udo; Peace Emmanuel Akpan; Akaninyene Sunday Akpan; Sunday Isong; Okon Gabriel Sunday; Ukeme Sunday Willie; Idongesit Sunday Essien; Felix Akpan Asuquo; George Albert; and Peter Udo, Esq.
Also present at the inauguration were the Secretary to the Council, Obong Sunday Udia; Supervisor for Transport, Hon. Janny Ben and the Chief of Staff, Engr. Emmanuel Edet.
