The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has settled outstanding furniture allowance arrears owed to former councillors and supervisors by previous administrations.
The presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries took place at the Chairman’s Office, Council Secretariat, Odot, on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The payment fulfils an assurance given by the Chairman on March 11, 2026, when he met with a delegation of former political office holders. Following a review of available official records, the Chairman confirmed the legitimacy of the claims and assured the delegation that the verified arrears would be settled.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Nyong said the payment was in line with his administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, responsible leadership and the settlement of legitimate obligations inherited from previous administrations.
The Chairman disclosed that upon assuming office, he was briefed that the matter involving some of the former political office holders had already proceeded to the Court of Appeal in Calabar.

He said his administration intervened to facilitate the withdrawal of the matter from court and pursue an amicable settlement, noting that the claims could be resolved administratively once their legitimacy had been established and due process followed.
According to him, those who had served the local government deserved to have their legitimate entitlements honoured, stressing that leadership required fairness, justice and a sense of responsibility.
He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to due process and the responsible handling of legitimate obligations inherited from previous administrations.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the former Dean of the College of Supervisors, Hon. Barry James, commended the Chairman for keeping his word and addressing the outstanding obligation despite inheriting the liability from previous administrations.
Also speaking, the former Leader of the Nsit Atai Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Ben Udo Ben, expressed appreciation to the Chairman for honouring his commitment and recognising the legitimate entitlements of those who had previously served the local government.
In the same vein, a former Supervisor, Hon. Johnny Udoh, commended the Chairman for settling the arrears, describing the payment as a demonstration of his concern for the welfare of former political office holders.
In her remarks, the Head of Service, Mrs. Imaobong Antai, thanked the Chairman for resolving the matter and clearing the outstanding arrears, noting that the payment had brought the issue to a close.
In recognition of the Chairman’s fulfilment of his commitment, inclusive leadership and development initiatives in the local government, the beneficiaries passed a vote of confidence in him and his administration and pledged their continued support.
The motion was moved by the former Leader of the Nsit Atai Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Ben Udo Ben, and seconded by a former councillor from Eastern Nsit Atai Ward 9, Hon. Davies Emmanuel.
In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of the Council, Obong Sunday Udia, expressed appreciation to the Chairman and all those who contributed to the resolution of the matter.
