Nsit Atai Chairman Receives National Merit Award For Healthcare Delivery

The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Prince Anthony Nyong, has been honoured with the Distinguished Local Government Chairman Merit Award in Nigeria by Rootswatch Magazine in recognition of his administration’s remarkable contributions to healthcare delivery and grassroots development.

The award was presented at the National Merit Award House, Abuja, during a ceremony attended by government officials, media practitioners, development stakeholders, and distinguished guests from across the country on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Prince Nyong was among the few local government chairmen recognised nationwide after a rigorous assessment of leadership performance, project implementation, and grassroots impact.

Presenting the award, Mrs. Latifat Afegbua, Head of News, Voice of Nigeria, who represented the chairman of the occasion and Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace, commended the Nsit Atai Chairman for his commitment to improving rural healthcare services and enhancing the wellbeing of people at the grassroots.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award, Prince Nyong expressed gratitude to Rootswatch Magazine for the recognition, describing the honour as a motivation to continue delivering on the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Nsit Atai.

“I sincerely appreciate Rootswatch Magazine for finding our modest efforts worthy of this recognition. This award is not just for me but for the entire people of Nsit Atai. It serves as a motivation for us to do more and remain committed to the mandate given to us by our people,” he said.

The Chairman noted that healthcare has remained a top priority of his administration since assuming office, stressing that deliberate efforts have been made to improve access to quality healthcare services across the local government area.

“From the day we assumed office, we made healthcare one of our key priorities because a healthy population is essential for sustainable development. So far, our administration has sponsored over 70 indigent persons for free surgeries and medical interventions, giving them a new lease of life,” he stated.

Prince Nyong further disclosed that his administration has consistently provided support to Primary Health Centres across the local government area to enable them function optimally and meet the healthcare needs of residents.

“We have continued to assist our Primary Health Centres with the resources and support needed to function effectively because healthcare services must be accessible to our people, especially those in rural communities,” he added.

The Chairman also paid tribute to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for his purposeful leadership and support for local government administrations across the state.

He equally acknowledged the support of stakeholders, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents of Nsit Atai, noting that their cooperation has contributed significantly to the successes recorded by his administration.

Prince Nyong reaffirmed his commitment to expanding healthcare interventions and implementing more people-oriented programmes aimed at improving the quality of life of residents across Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
