
The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Mrs. Emem Anthony Nyong, has officially flagged off the Measles-Rubella (MR) Immunization Campaign in Nsit Atai, reaffirming her commitment to protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases across the local government area.
At the flag-off ceremony held at the Primary Health Centre, Odot on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Mrs. Nyong described the immunization campaign as a vital health intervention aimed at eliminating measles and rubella, while reducing child illness and mortality.
The First Lady, represented at the event by the Supervisor for Women Affairs, Hon. Noble Paul, who performed the symbolic vaccination on her behalf, noted that immunization remains one of the most dependable and effective strategies for safeguarding the health and future of children.

She called on parents, guardians, and caregivers across all wards of Nsit Atai to ensure that their eligible children are taken to designated primary health centres and approved vaccination posts to receive the vaccine free of charge.
She further reaffirmed her continued support for health programmes that promote the wellbeing of residents, particularly children, and stressed the need for collective community participation to guarantee the success of the campaign.

In her welcome address, the Director of Health, Mrs. Nene Afahane, urged mothers to take the immunization exercise seriously.

She emphasised the importance of full participation, noting that the success of the campaign depends largely on the cooperation of parents and the community at large.
Other health officials who spoke at the event reassured the public that the Measles-Rubella vaccine is safe, effective, and provided free of charge by the government as part of efforts to strengthen routine immunization coverage.
The highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of gift items to mothers and school pupils in attendance, an initiative aimed at encouraging participation and boosting public confidence in the immunization exercise.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Mandu Edemikoh; the Councillor representing Ward 10, Hon. Edidiong Ibia; alongside health officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
The campaign will cover all wards within Nsit Atai Local Government Area, targeting eligible children within the approved age bracket.
