Nsit Atai Confidence Vote on Chairman

“Before the coming of this administration, this council secretariat had gradually become deserted and vulnerable to criminal activities. Today, we are witnessing a remarkable turnaround through the ongoing rehabilitation and renewed activities within the secretariat. This clearly demonstrates your commitment to restoring the prestige and functionality of the local government system,” he said.

He, however, called on the Chairman to sustain the developmental efforts while ensuring that village youth leaders remain active partners in the administration of the local government.

In a similar vein, Akparawa Peter Edet appealed to the Chairman to consider holding quarterly security meetings with village youth leaders to enable them to report developments and security concerns within their communities directly to the council leadership.

Also addressing the gathering, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nsit Atai Division of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Solomon Nyakno, commended the youth leaders for their cooperation with the council administration in maintaining peace and security in the area.

He noted that Nsit Atai currently enjoys relative peace compared to several other local government areas in the state and assured the youth leaders of the readiness of the police to partner with them in safeguarding their communities. He also cautioned the youths against social vices such as cultism, drug abuse and cybercrime.

The Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Mrs Affiong Amanam, in her remarks, urged the youths to remain peaceful and continue supporting the administration in its efforts to move the local government forward.

Similarly, the Dean of Supervisors, Hon. Emmanuel Okono, advised the youths to respect constituted authority and sustain the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed in the area.

Responding, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, expressed appreciation to the village youth leaders for their commitment to peace and development across the local government area.

“Youths remain the strength and backbone of every progressive society. No community can experience meaningful development without the active participation and cooperation of its young people. I sincerely appreciate your commitment to maintaining peace and stability in your respective villages,” the Chairman said.

He urged the youth leaders to remain vigilant and ensure that criminal elements do not find haven within their communities.

“The presence of the Divisional Police Officer here today is deliberate. It is meant to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and our youth leaders so that together we can sustain the peace currently enjoyed in Nsit Atai.

“Don’t allow your village to become a haven for criminals. Once you notice any strange movement, please do not hesitate to contact the police,” he added.

The Chairman emphasised that peace remains a fundamental requirement for development and assured the youths that his administration would continue to work tirelessly to sustain the peaceful atmosphere across the local government.

He further advised youth leaders to work closely with their village heads and other stakeholders in promoting development, unity and environmental cleanliness within their communities.

The Chairman also used the opportunity to appreciate Governor Umo Eno for key developmental projects in Nsit Atai, including the Youth-Friendly Centre project, Model Primary School at Ikot Akpabio, Model Health Centre at Odot, the Odot–Ikot Ubo Road and other road construction projects, particularly the recently awarded Ikot Asua–Odot Road and Ikot Edong–Idiaba Road.

He urged the youths to continue supporting the Governor’s ARISE Agenda, noting that the state government has demonstrated a genuine commitment to the development of Nsit Atai.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the Chairman by the village youth leaders in recognition of his leadership. This was followed by a formal motion for a vote of confidence on the Chairman and the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Aniekan Bassey, Rt. Hon. Mark Esset and Hon. Aniefiok Attah for a second term in office in 2027.

The motion was moved by Comrade Charles Okon and seconded by Akparawa Otobong Ubeh, after which it received overwhelming support from the youth leaders present at the meeting.
