Nsit Ubium LG Council Consults Oku Ibom Ibibio, TRC For Synergy
The leadership of Nsit Ubium Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom State is to work closely with traditional rulers in the area to ensure accelerated development and peace.
To this end, the Executive Chairman of the local government, Hon. Iniobong Orok, accompanied by council officials undertook a familiarization visit to the Nsit Ubium Traditional Rulers Council headed by the Paramount Ruler of the area and Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk.
According to the chairman, the courtesy visit and homage to the Oku Ibom Ibibio and the TRC was in acknowledgement of the fact that traditional rulers have vital roles to play in helping the local government council to succeed.
The chairman said as custodians of culture and tradition in their respective domains, traditional rulers have helped greatly in stabilizing the polity by ensuring that societal norms and values are adhered to in Nsit Ubium.
The council boss opined that when traditional rulers work hand in hand with his administration, it would go a long way to boost the performance of the council, saying “effective running of the council and implementation of its policies, programmes and projects can only be achieved through collaboration.”
He solicited for inputs and suggestions from the traditional rulers, stressing that their knowledge and wealth of experience would help impact positively on his administration.

“As our fathers, we are ever ready to take instructions and suggestions from you. We cannot do it alone; the council must utilize your wealth of experience and knowledge. We are totally sure that you will not deny us your help,” he said.
The chairman assured them that his administration would continue to accord the welfare of traditional rulers’ top priority.
Regretting that the visit was long overdue, he, however, attributed it to the delay in the appointment of special advisers and supervisors.
“Now that the council hierarchy is complete, we are fully on course to succeed,” he added.
Clan Head of Ubium, His Highness, Etebom Ukpong Nwa Udoewa, counselled the chairman and members of his council to remain resolute in delivering on the mandate given to them by Nsit Ubium people.
The monarch also advised them to be God fearing, noting that any leadership which has God as its anchor always succeed.
Speaking on behalf of village heads, Eteidung Gabriel Inoh of Obio Ubium village and his Ikot Inyang Eti counterpart, Eteidung Andrew Essien, harped on the importance of genuine cooperation between the local government and traditional institution.
“The cooperation which you (LG Council Chairman) are seeking has to be genuine. We are elders and traditional rulers; we know how we can help you to succeed as our son. You have to listen to us at all times, listen to our needs too,” said Eteidung Inoh.
“Cooperation is the most important thing in any organization or government. Members of the council have to cooperate with you; you have to cooperate with us. Most importantly, pursue that which brings common good to Nsit Ubium,” Eteidung Essien added.
Etubom Mkparawa, Elder Patrick Wilson and Etubom Mkparawa Emem Monday Jimmy, Youth Presidents of the two clans of Nsit and Ubium, respectively, accompanied by village youth presidents from the area, also made a presentation to the local government council.
Etubom Mkparawa, Elder Patrick Wilson emphasized that the council should cater for the welfare of village youth presidents as they are in charge of securing villages with the help of youths.
His Ubium Clan counterpart, Etubom Mkparawa Emem Monday Jimmy equally toed the same line. He, however, suggested that the chairman should ensure that a befitting council chamber is erected for traditional rulers in Nsit Ubium.
The council boss promised to implement the ideas raised.
The Paramount Ruler, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, in his reaction admonished the chairman to carry out his job with diligence.
While appreciating the council chairman for his commitment to developing the area, the premier monarch said that was made possible by the general stability and peace engendered by the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the state.
According to him, the governor places high priority on peace and security.
The monarch recalled that Nsit Ubium was badly affected by insecurity in the recent past, and enjoined Nsit Ubium people to appreciate and sustain peace enjoyed in the area: “Sometime in 2011, insecurity was very high in the state. It affected Nsit Ubium so badly, our Paramount Ruler was assassinated. Today, a new administration came in and we are having peace. We have every reason; we have every cause to thank Governor Udom Emmanuel.”
Assuring the local government council of support from the traditional institution, the premier monarch lauded the council chairman for realizing the importance of synergizing with the traditional rulers.
The local government council delegation also had the vice chairman, Mrs Ofonime Ntiense; council secretary, Johnson Jimmy; leader of the legislative council, Inyang Sunday; deputy leader, Jephthah George; chief whip, Pastor Ann Abraham, other councillors, supervisors and special advisers.
