By Mercy Obot

To mark her two and a half years in office, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, member, House of Representatives, representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, rolled out a Mega Empowerment Programme to reaffirm her commitment to grassroots development.

The empowerment programme, themed “Renewing Hope for Shared Prosperity,” was held in Magodo, Lagos State on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

In her address, Ogbara said the initiative was part of her campaign promise to improve lives across Agboyi-Ketu, Ikosi-Isheri, and other parts of Kosofe Federal Constituency, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“In 2023, you entrusted me with the mandate to represent you, and I promised that your voices would not only be heard at the National Assembly, but that tangible development would reach our streets, schools, markets, and homes,” she said.

“This aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of our President and father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The lawmaker disclosed that she has executed 30 intervention programmes since assuming office.

These include a ₦100 million grant for women and youths, free CAC business registration for market women, financial literacy programmes, vocational and technical skills training, and empowerment initiatives for female entrepreneurs.

Other interventions include drug abuse awareness campaigns, free cooking gas distribution to households, donation of over 20,000 textbooks to schools, medical and palliative outreaches, installation of solar-powered boreholes and streetlights, donation of transformers, and road upgrading projects.

Ogbara also revealed that she facilitated the construction of the first-ever secondary school in Agboyi Community, one of Lagos State’s oldest island settlements, and is currently overseeing the construction of a 24-classroom school in Oworosonki to reduce overcrowding.

She described the 2026 Kosofe, Agboyi-Ketu, and Ikosi-Isheri Mega Empowerment Programme as a continuation of her commitment to delivering tangible, people-centred governance at the grassroots, adding that the programme is aimed at creating economic opportunities and shared prosperity for constituents.

“Leadership is not about occupying office, but about improving lives. What we give today represents opportunity and hope,” she said.

“So we gather here today for our 2026 Kosofe, Agboyi-Ketu, and Ikosi-Isheri Mega Empowerment Programme as a continuation of our commitment to lift our people and give them shared prosperity,” she noted.

Speaking further, Ogbara said the 2026 Mega Empowerment Programme has empowered 1,000 people and is a continuation of efforts to provide constituents with the tools to achieve economic independence and shared prosperity.

“In today’s mega programme, we have empowered 1,000 people, and this will be a continuous process because we are intentional about uplifting our people from poverty.

“Every empowerment tool represents opportunity, hope, and our belief in your capacity to transform your circumstances,” she added.

The federal lawmaker assured constituents that her focus would remain on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment, with special attention to women, youths, artisans, and senior citizens.
