Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has raised alarm and concern over the danger posed by oil spillage in the fishing settlements and communities of Iko, Nta and Obianga in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.
The concern was as a result of a matter of urgent public importance brought before the House by the member representing Ikot Abasi/ Eastern Obolo State Constituency, Rt. Hon Uduak Odudoh, during its plenary of Tuesday.
According to Rt. Hon. Odudoh, the negative effect of the spill has affected the fishing business of the people in the area.

The matter was immediately referred to the joint House Committees on Environment and Petroleum by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, with a charge for thorough investigation to ascertain the root cause of the spillage and the oil company responsible for it.
The speaker also charged the joint committees to report their findings to the House within one month for further legislative action.
