Oku Ibom Ibibio Charges Blueway Ocean Foundation On Sustainable Development, Management Of Marine Ecosystems

His Eminence Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR, Oku Ibom Ibibio, and President-General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, has charged the leadership of Blueway Ocean Foundation with promoting sustainable development and effective management of marine ecosystems.

The premier Royal father gave the charge when he received the executives of the Blueway Ocean Foundation, a non-governmental organisation in Akwa Ibom State, at his palace in Ikot Ukobo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The visit, according to the body, was to apprise the monarch of their landmark Initiatives in Akwa Ibom State, with a specific focus on educating and sensitising communities about the importance of marine ecosystems, conservation, and sustainable ocean resource management.

The Co-founder of the NGO, Mr Rehoboth Eno, and Managing Director, Mr Iniodu Bassey Ndada, led the delegation to pay homage to Oku Ibom Ibibio, presenting a comprehensive overview of the foundation’s projects and programs, thereby highlighting its commitment to contributing to sustainable development and marine resource conservation in Akwa Ibom and the wider Niger Delta region.

Mr Eno said, “We are here to introduce Blueway Ocean Foundation to you, our supreme King and also raise awareness in our communities about aquatic life, conservation, oil and gas management, and environmental protection.”

“We will undertake shoreline cleanup initiatives to remove plastic waste and debris, thereby protecting marine life and ecosystems”.

“These initiatives will not only enhance the economic landscape of our state but also generate employment opportunities for Akwa Ibom indigenes in the oil and gas sector,” Rehoboth Eno added.

In his remarks, the Oku Ibom Ibibio commended the delegation for their laudable initiatives, expressing admiration for their commitment to economic development in the state. He further encouraged them to tap into the vast potential of the blue economy and maritime sector, recognising the immense opportunities these industries promise to unlock for economic expansion and job creation in the near future.

“I have listened attentively to your presentation, which focuses on developing human capacity, particularly among the youth”.

“As Royal Fathers, our role is to offer prayers, guidance and support, welcome any initiative that would foster growth and development in Akwa Ibom State and, by extension, our nation at large,” – Oku Ibom Ibibio stated.

Furthermore, the Akwa Ibom Premier Royal Father called for sustainable development and effective management of marine ecosystems, which would, in turn, unlock substantial employment opportunities for the burgeoning youth population.

He also urged them to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to drive a transformative turnaround in the marine sector, benefiting the people of Akwa Ibom.

Notable individuals among the Blueway Ocean Foundation’s team include Prince Michael Etim Edet, Director of Programs, and Bishop Goderich Samuel Akpan, Public Relations, Engr. Micah Ntiense Adam and Mr Gideon Vincent Nwokediri, members of the operation committee.

The monarch subsequently offered Royal blessings to the team.
