Oku Ibom Ibibio Congratulates Akwa Ibom-born Utitofon Jackson Inaugurated As Mayor Of Islington, United Kingdom

Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR, has extended his goodwill to an Akwa Ibom-born, Mr. Jason Utitofon Jackson, on his historic election and inauguration as Mayor of the Borough of Islington in the United Kingdom.
Ntenyin Etuk, reacting to the news of Mr. Jackson, a native of Ika Local Government Area, for becoming the first Nigerian-born politician to occupy the Office of Mayor of Islington since the Borough’s founding in 1900, described the feat as an incredible act of God.
According to the premier royal father, despite Jackson’s humble beginning in Akwa Ibom State and his early education at the Holy Family College, Abak, he went on to have a higher education and an illustrious career in public service in the United Kingdom, culminating in his current political success story.
“This is a worthy achievement not only for Mayor Jason Utitofon Jackson but for all of us. We are quite thrilled over this news. His successful election and swearing-in to the Office of Mayor of Islington in the United Kingdom on Thursday, May 15, 2025, is a great feat, which we greatly cherish.
“We, the traditional rulers in Akwa Ibom State, are therefore very proud of Mayor Jason Utitofon Jackson. He has demonstrated laudable qualities to be counted as a worthy ambassador. We congratulate him and wish him a successful tenure and greater political accomplishments in the future,” he added.
Oku Ibom Ibibio recalled that not long ago, another Akwa Ibom-born daughter from Nsit Ibom, Ukeme Awakessien-Jeter, made history by becoming the first African-American to be elected the Mayor of Upper Arlington in the State of Ohio, the United States, in over 100 years.

Jackson, who holds a degree in Business Law and Media Studies, as well as a Master’s in Big Data in Culture and Society from King’s College London, is happily married with three sons.
