Oku Ibom Ibibio Congratulates Obong of Calabar On Resolution Of Crisis

Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR has congratulated the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V for the resolution of the crisis that dogged the stool over the years.

The Akwa Ibom premier royal father, in a goodwill message on behalf of Ifim Ibom Ibibio otherwise known as Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, said they received with joy and satisfaction his validation as the Obong of Calabar by the Cross River State government.

Ntenyin Etuk, while congratulating the Calabar monarch for the landmark development, expressed commendations to the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu for being firm in resolving the hitherto disputes and accordingly affirming him as the validly selected and elected King.

According to him the peaceful resolution, which brings to an end, the disputes which started in 2008 is well cherished, considering the significance of the stool to the Efik Kingdom and the broader relationships with others in Cross River State, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria in general.

He therefore called on all Efiks to give their monarch the needed cooperation and urged all parties who were involved in the disputes to accept the resolution so that peace, love, unity and development would reign in their midst and the kingdom, adding that kingship is of the Lord and He gives to whosoever He wishes.

Oku Ibom Ibibio urged Edidem Otu, who is the 78th monarch of the Efik people and the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), to continue using his wealth of experience as a seasoned telecommunication expert and administrator to serve his subjects, State and Nation with love.

He assured the Obong of Calabar of mutual solidarity, cooperation and friendship of Ifim Ibom Ibibio, rooted in the age-long bonds of brotherhood and togetherness between them, adding that Ibibios and Efiks shall continue to flourish in culture, cuisines, tourism, entrepreneurial accomplishments and other areas.

The message read, “Ifim Ibom Ibibio otherwise known as the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers has received with great joy the news of your confirmation as the Obong of Calabar and the Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom by the Government of Cross River State on November 7, 2023.

“While we heartily congratulate you for this landmark success, we wish to express our commendations to the Executive Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu for being firm in resolving the hitherto disputes and accordingly affirming you as the validly selected and elected King.

“The peaceful resolution, which brings to an end, the contention which started in 2008 is well cherished, given the significance of the Stool to the Efik Kingdom and the broader relationships with others in Cross River State, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria in general.

‘We therefore solicit the cooperation of all Efiks, particularly all parties who were involved in the disputations to accept this renewed vista of love, unity and development as the will of the Sovereign God, who rules over the realms of mankind, and bestows Kingship upon whomsoever He wishes (Daniel 4:17).

“We urge you as the 78th monarch of the Efik people and the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), to continue using your wealth of experience as a seasoned telecommunication expert and administrator in serving your subjects, State and Nation with love and without let or hindrance as it will rightly be pleasing to God.

“Ifim Ibom Ibibio therefore wishes to further assure you of our mutual solidarity, cooperation and friendship, rooted in our age-long bonds of brotherhood and togetherness.

“Without romanticising, Ibibios and Efiks shall continue to flourish with our rich cultural heritage, cuisines, tourism, entrepreneurial accomplishments, et al.”
