ONNA LG Council Chairman unveils first 100 days scorecard
Offers Scholarship, Wheel Chairs To Students, Physically-challenged Pupils
The Executive Chairman of ONNA Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Elder Iniabasi Ekanem, has unveiled the scorecard of his first 100 days in office, with agriculture, infrastructure development and provision of social amenities featuring among other key areas touched by his administration.
Briefing ONNA people at the Local Government Council Hall at Abat on Wednesday, the council helmsman stated that since coming on board, his administration has remained committed to making the area a safe place to live, work and engage in business concerns.

In infrastructures within and outside the council, Hon. Ekanem disclosed that he has reactivated boreholes, revamped 33 toilets which were not functioning when he resumed, repaired an ambulance for the primary health centre, reconnected the council to national grid after four years of disconnection, regular cutting of grass at the council premises and environs, as well as ongoing rehabilitation of Social Welfare Building.
He also revealed that his administration undertook grading of roads during the period under review, “We have also undertaken grading of roads in Ikot Nkan/ Ikot Ndua Ima/ Ikot Annang, Ndaeyi Uta Road in Okat, Ikot Ntuen, Ikot Ebo Ibon, Ikot Akpatek/ Edereobo market, Mkpok Internal roads and Awa Urban.
In agriculture, Hon. Ekanem said the past 100 days have witnessed exploits which boost the food sufficiency drive of the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration.
“We have been able to partner with a consultant to cultivate 20 hectares of farmland on cassava cultivation. We have also secured a land at Ikot Ebekpo for the establishment of market for building/timber dealers as well as a land for trailer park to ease traffic at Kings Flour Mill,” he noted.
He further highlighted that “in terms of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the council has successfully secured some major revenue points which include: Edereobo Market, Ikot Akpatek, motor park etc.”
He thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for supporting local government chairmen to deliver to people in the grassroots.
The event also featured the presentation of financial support to six students of higher institutions, five wheel chairs to physically-challenged persons and eight sewing machines to fashion designers.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Uto Victor Inyang, who got a brand new wheelchair, lauded the council boss for the gesture, and prayed God to imbue him with wisdom, good health and enablement to led ONNA aright.
The event was attended by a crème-de-la-creme of the ONNA political class, traditional rulers and members of the public.
