Igbifa Emerges 8th President Of Ijaw Youth Council

The umbrella body of Ijaw youths, the Ijaw Youths Council, has conducted a peaceful National Executive Council election in Oporoza community in Warri South West Local Government Council of Delta State, leading to the emergence of Comrade Peter Timothy Igbifa as the eighth president of the council.

Also elected are Saviour Alali, deputy president; Frank Pukon, Secretary-general; Amafina Otti, Assistant secretary; Ebilade Ekerefe, spokesman; Sunny Ebiye, financial secretary; Timilaemi Ebifiobo, treasurer and Tina Tobusi, woman leader.

Others are Obiri Ebilade, legal adviser; Israel Fubara, director of mobilization and Ofiyou Dennis as assistant director of mobilization.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executive of the IYC, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe thanked a foremost leader from the region, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, for hosting the IYC convention in his community at Oporoza in Gbaramatu Kingdom.

Ekerefe also thanked the electoral committee under Barr. Bekewei Ajuwa for conducting a free, fair and transparent election which produced Comr. Peter Timothy Igbifa as president and commended former leaders and elders of the council who sacrificed their time and resources in seeing through the process that birthed the new leadership.

Comr. Ebilade stated that the council under the leadership of Comrade Igbifa will not fold their hands and watch the ‘abrakadabra’ that is currently going on in the NDDC, Amnesty Office and other key government institutions that are supposed to have positive impact on the region in the name of ‘forensic audit’ to continue.

He stated that in few days from now, the IYC will consult with critical stakeholders from the region and take a firm and decisive position on the drama that is currently going on in the NDDC.

He assured the Ijaw Nation that moving forward, their leadership will not tolerate fifth columnists who are conniving with external forces to short-changing the collective Ijaw interest.

The spokesman called on everyone in the region to cooperate with the new leadership and assured of its readiness to engaging and mobilizing Ijaw youths for the task ahead.

He thanked the aspirants, particularly the once who didn’t make the exco to see it as the hand of God and join hands with them in righting the wrongs.

He promised that the leadership will work with everybody from the region, including political elite, to set a strategic agenda in the areas of security, environment, politics, infrastructure, youths’ engagements/empowerments and so on.

He called on the IOC’s operating within the region to be ready for a robust engagement as it will not be business as usual.
